5 Reasons to Follow the Aussie Open the Rest of the Way

5. Just like at any tennis tourney, the possibility of a player blowing up on a linesman (see Serena, ’09 US Open) or the chair ump is very high. Last night ESPN did a great piece on Andy Roddick’s past blow ups, while he was on set mind you! It was all in good fun, but he’s a ticking time bomb. Someone will leave such a lasting memory. Never fails.
4. If you like tennis at all, it’s really the only time worth following from Oct-May. It goes into complete hibernation mode a la golf.Â
3. Chris Fowler and Brad Gilbert. Half the reason I even watch tennis is for the commentary. These two are brilliant. BG is like Johnny Miller for golf – he calls anyone and everyone out when they stink, or when they’re not trying, and drops lines like “Fed is going to take him to the woodshed.” And Fowler just eggs him on. Good stuff.
2. Fans of the Aussie Open (see pic above). Above all the other Slams, this is the tourney in which girls bring out their big guns.Â
1. The potential of another epic 5 set final with Roger Federer smack in the middle. Most of the time it’s vs Rafa (like last year’s Aussie), but last year he lost to Del Potro at the US in 5, and beat Roddick in 5 at Wimbledon. Fed is entertaining on the court and does commercials with Jetes off the court. Enjoy the greatness while it lasts.

When I lived back on the East Coast I’d watch about 2 mins total of this tournament (mostly because it was on live at 2am). But now that I’m on the West Coast I actually watch a game or two.
I do agree with the spectator ‘talent’.
