Why I Hate Soccer, Reason #6

Posted on 19. Jun, 2010 at 9:13 pm by in Soccer

In honor of the World Cup I’ll be posting a daily reason on why I hate soccer.  The numbers are just for keeping track, these are not in order of importance. There are so many reasons to hate soccer that it would take too long to try and rank them. The other reasons can be found here. 1 2 3 4 5

Offsides.  The stupidest rule in all of sports and another reason to hate soccer.  What is the point of this rule?  To make it even harder to score goals, which are obviously too hard to score in the first place?  There is actually a strategy where the defense purposely runs past the offensive player to draw the penalty.  Man what a creative and beautiful strategy.  Imagine if the NFL passed a rule that a receiver couldn’t run past the furthest defense of back.  Or if basketball players couldn’t run past a defender on the fast break.  That would be the equivalent of this ridiculous rule that soccer employs.  I understand they are trying to discourage cherry picking, but that has to be a better way.  Not letting a forward(?) beat his man down the field pitch is stupid and ruins would could be some exciting scoring opportunities.

In fairness, not everything sucks about soccer:

Lol, stupid article by someone who knows shit about the sport.
Without offside, attackers would be always packed inside the box just waiting for someone to pass, thus killing the ‘beautiful game’.

    Three words: EDUCATE YOURSELF FIRST.

    More goals = more excitement

    beautiful game = boring game

Watching paint dry is an art, you have to really know your stuff or its boring. If you find it boring, its because you are an idiot. You don’t know about the different drying textures and phases. All you uneducated morons need to study up on paint drying so that way you can watch it with glee, you uncultured bastards.

Brush up on your reading comprehension skills Vincent, I acknowledged what soccer is trying to prevent with this ridiculous rule. It doesn’t make the rule any less ridiculous. Hell I’d be fine with the game opening up the amount of shots on goal and at the same time shrinking the size of the goal. But do something to create more scoring opportunities.

Once again, when pressed soccer fan can’t come up with a viable take as to why his sport doesn’t suck.

You’re an idiot. Attackers can beat their markers down the field as long as they are not ahead of the defender when the ball is kicked. This prevents cherry picking and such. Comparing it to basketball and football is also a senseless one to make, since both sports stop the play every 15 seconds. There may not be as many scoring opportunities in soccer as other sports, but if you let each goal count for 7 points there would be scores similar to football. You are the epitome of another overly opinionated idiot abusing his internet freedom. Focus on appreciating the beautiful aspects (as you have posted above) instead of hating on the world’s most popular sport.
