Tim Lincecum really is “The Freak”

Tim Lincecum is nearly unbeatable. The things he does while on the mound certainly make him deserving of his nickname. Granted we’re only 1 week into the 2010 season but for the first time it appears as though he has a descent offense behind him as well. The guy is the 2 time defending Cy Young Award winner and there is no reason to believe he won’t win it again. He is 2-0 after two starts for the first time in his career and just put 10 k’s up last night against the Braves. They call him “the freak” because of his unique delivery and the nastiness of his stuff.
One of our writers (3D) had the pleasure of seeing him up close and personal in college while he pitched for the Huskies. That was the first time I ever remember hearing about the guy and he has since surpassed every expectation possible. After hearing about his nastiness I almost compare him to Lebron James when it comes to living up to all the hype. He didn’t get all the hype that Lebron did nationally but from what I heard about him when he was in college I can see the similarity. Basically he was supposed to be great and he’s been better than great. The guy is a strikeout machine with nearly 700 career K’s in just over 600 career innings. He has already won the 2 Cys and is only 25 years old! If he can avoid injury throughout his career there is no limit to the things he should be able to accomplish. The magic number of 300 wins still has to be considered a long shot but I’d say you can pencil him in for at least 3,000 career k’s no problem. The win total will be up there but obviously he needs to be on some good teams if he’s gonna win that many.
If you are a baseball fan and ever have the chance to watch Tim Lincecum pitch, it is absolutely must see tv. Keep an eye out for some seriously big numbers from him this season (maybe 20+ wins and 300+ k’s).

Not only does he have the stuff on the mound and the awards, he also added controversy during the offseason. Burning tree in the dub!

A Sam Bowie-esc decision by the M’s. Why would pass on a hometown kid like Timmy, and for what? Oh ya, Brandon Morrow. It always easier to look back an judge, but cmon M’s. The dude was under your nose for 20 years. They also chose Clement over Tulo.
Tulowitzki awoke on the morning of June 7, 2005, convinced he was headed to Seattle. The Mariners held the third selection. “A couple of minutes before the draft,” he says, “they’d called me and said, ‘You’re our guy.’ ”
Instead, general manager Bill Bavasi and scouting director Bob Fontaine determined that catcher was a bigger organizational need and that a left-handed hitter with pop would fit perfectly into Safeco Field.
Oh well, I guess we still have Milton right? I think he is the definition of day-to-day.
….Timmy’s recent tree burning incident only reiterates the quality and caliber of player that he is.
