magazines, your days are numbered

magazines, your days are numbered

Stopped in the Apple store this past week with FIL (father-in-law) to kill some time while the lady folk finished their round of shopping.  Toying with sleek new electronic devices is always an easy way to kill some time.  So FIL and I sidled up to some iPads to speed the sands of time.  Certainly a very cool product, that iPad.  But what got me thinking, long after the mall visit … was the idea that magazines are next on the old-school media chopping block.  Newspapers are on the brink because of the internet, now with a device like the iPad –that is easier to read than a mobile phone and not as bulky as a laptop — will they make magazines extinct in 7 years?  When iPad-like devices are as cheap as 50 bucks, would you keep one in the bathroom for your daily read session?  Would you rather take the iPad-like device with you on the train to work?  Would you take your iPad-like device with you on the beach?   Hell, I could probably pick up an iPad tomorrow and begin writing up some posts from the bathroom if I really wanted to multi-task and turn out some shitty pieces.  Hmmm, my ESPN the magazine and Entertainment Weekly mags should be getting worried right about now.

RIP Manute Bol … you were a freakish looking human … a fly-swatter in the paint … a wildly funny 3-point shooter … but also a quality human being.

What an up and down US Open it has been.  Thought Mickelson was done, then he swings up out of nowhere on Friday.  Then I think Tiger just doesn’t have it this weekend, then he shreds the back nine on Saturday.  Ernie Els is lurking and Japanese prodigy Ishikawa is clinging on.  Dustin Johnson has posted a lower score each day.  Graeme McDowell has been money until the last two holes in round 3.  Oh, some dudes named Havret, Clark, and Cejka are around as well.

But the only question that really matters is … TIGER OR THE FIELD ???

Adds will keep mags afloat. And I begrudgely take the field, 5strokes is a lot. But I got my Sunday red on for support.

Actually, Woods and Havret have also posted lower scores as well as Johnson each round. I don’t think Johnson has ever begun a major on sunday as the leader, Tiger needs to birdie early to apply pressure.

A Tiger & Ernie pairing could get interesting.

I’m gonna bet Tiger wins cuz the other guys will falter with the spotlight on them for 18 holes.

I really like Graeme McDowell to win it. He’s been playing some good golf and I don’t see Johnson holding on. Either Tiger, Ernie or Phil will give a charge at it late but McDowell will hold them off.

How about some dap for my call on McDowell. I pretty much summed up the entire final round except for the late charge was by some unknown frenchman.

Dap for SKI about the McDowell call.

No dap for SKI on “calling” a late charge by Tiger Woods OR Phi Mickelson OR Ernie Els.

Jake I can see you’re new to this site so I’ll let it slide this time, but if you cared to read all the comments you would see that I chose McDowell beating the biggest names.

SKI – reading comprehension is very low for many of our commenters. Apparently so is counting as you listed 3 names not 4.

SKI you got lucky. Kudos for that, too bad your horse picks need to be taken out behind the stables and put of their misery.

You cant call that luck when I said exactly what would happen. Naw my horse picks have been off, even though my last picks were alive to over 1200 in the last race just didn’t hit.
