Lou Brown has died…Sports and Movie fans everywhere are Mourning

Actor James Gammon best known for his role as Lou Brown in Major League died Friday. How the Indians didn’t pay tribute yesterday at the game for him is just absurd, and yes I was watching the Indians play yesterday which is sad in its self. But he along with the rest of the cast of Major League are the closest thing to a winning franchise that city has, and to not honor him is down right disgraceful. I know as a baseball coach myself I try to gear my coaching style as close to Lou Brown as possible. So lets all remember Lou with my favorite scene from Major League.

This is the only video on youtube that has this scene or any scene which is worthwhile so just deal with the shitty quality.

Skip to 3:22 and watch pure gold.

[Lou's talk to the team before the opening day game]

All right people, we got 10 minutes ’till game time, let’s all gather ’round. I’m not much for giving inspirational addresses, but I’d just like to point out that every newspaper in the country has picked us to finish last. The local press seems to think that we’d save everyone the time and trouble if we just went out and shot ourselves. Me, I’m for wasting sportswriters’ time. So I figured we ought to hang around for a while and see if we can give ‘em all a nice big shitburger to eat! [entire team laughs]

Major League is an all-time classic, and Lou Brown is a big reason why.

He was a great quote and overachiever. But, could never quite win the big one, he was kind of like Lou Pinella.

Hands down the funniest baseball movie ever. Not the best, but had so many damn one-liners that have been told and re-told and baseball fields all across America for two decades…. Couldn’t imagine any other actor from the 80s pulling off that role any better!

Since when is winning a world series not winning the big one?
