Hey Chip, what’s going on?

Leadership

Lead-er-ship (noun)

An act or instance of leading; guidance; direction: They prospered under his leadership.

I figured I would clear up the definition of leadership for all the Duck fans, as we haven’t seen much of it from the Oregon Athletic Department of late.

In what has been an awful six months, started by LeGarrette Blount’s much publicized blowup on the blue turf of Boise the first week of September, there have been many more questions than answers.

Regardless of what you thought about Chip Kelly’s decision to initially suspend Blount for the year, only to reinstate him seven weeks later, you have to admit that Kelly and the brass at Oregon got in front of that bullet almost immediately.

Kelly was brash, loud and hard-handed in dolling out Blount’s punishment,  but has been equally silent and invisible in this last month of tumult amongst his football players.

It appears small-time.

It appears weak.

What are you hiding from, Mr. Kelly?

Since January 25th when Garrett Embry and Jeremiah Masoli were accused of raiding the SAE house and stealing laptops, and kickers Rob Beard and Mike Bowlin were involved in an on-campus brawl that left Beard in critical condition and with a 4th-degree assault charge, Kelly has been a ghost. Bowlin like Embry has since left the program.

On the heels of that and the latest news that All-American running back, LaMichael James has been arrested and booked on misdemeanor charges of assault, strangulation and menacing in connection to a domestic dispute, all we have gotten from the University of Oregon is this quote today from Dave Williford:

“We don’t know anymore than whats been reported.”

Sorry Mr. Williford, but that doesn’t cut it.

Leadership and accountability come from the top of an organization, and this organization seems to be lacking in both of those areas.

It’s time to speak, Mr. Kelly. Time to clear the air.

The time is now to stand a top of  Spencers Butter and yell. Let the nation and the Eugene communityknow that this is your program, and your program will not continue to allow this activity to go on.

The clock is ticking, the nation is forming their opinions of the program, and the silence is deafening.

Somebody call Nike and tell them to stop printing LaStrangler jerseys for the 2010 season!

If I’m Chip, I hold a press conference right around 8am on Friday (same time as that one in Florida involving that golf guy).

Good call Kat. Friday’s are always the best day to have press conferences that involve bad subject matter. Even better, in terms of national coverage to have it around the same time as ‘that guy’s’.

And this is the reason they don’t pick random fans to be leaders of highly lucrative and in-the-eye-of-the-public organizations. What part of pending investigations do Duck fans not get? What organizational leader would comment on an ongoing investigation? Isn’t this exactly what lawyers tell their clients – to not comment until everything plays out? Has uncle Phi commented on Tiger yet? Did owners, GMs, and managers just throw out their two cents on the likes of Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and other ‘roid users – DURING THE OFF SEASON? What could Kelly possibly say that would satisfy Duck fans who want answers right away? Let the facts play out. We saw the Blount situation, there was no debate about what happened, and he came out and handled it. The Masoli hearing is still pending, and certainly the James deal is as well. If Duck fans want to ‘hear something from the top’, they need to start w/ President Frohnmayer and Ad Bellotti. Chip is a leader, but he has plenty of others over his head who are paid to help make decisions like this. And, quite frankly, those two owe it to the ‘orginazation’ and its players to keep their mouths shut until the facts come out and the legal process has run its course.

PS – this is not a blast at Kinger, but I’ve heard or seen demands like this from many sources today. The sun will rise tomorrow, people.

This investigation will prove one thing for sure … that either LaMichael or his girlfriend … is a type-A creep. Meaning, if it’s all true, then James is done. If it’s all a lie, then the girlfriend will be run-out-of-town.

It could have been a simple he-said-she-said issue, except for the fact that there are “abrasions” on the alleged victim.

So now the key to this whole case is a series of questions … how were said abrasions created? …. when were said abrasions created? … whom created said abrasions? yada yada yada

If there is a witness that can side with the victim … James is cooked … flip side … if there is a witness that can side with James … she is cooked.

This is gonna turn ugly … and because everyone is innocent until proven guilty (though i do like my LaStrangler nickname) coach Kelly will keep James on the team … but won’t play him in the fall if this case is still pending.

The biggest difference between the Masoli/Embry deal and the James incident is that there have been no charges in fratgate, so really no need to comment on them. But….James has been charged (for a much more serious offense) was jailed, had a 40,000 dollar bail set on his head and will be wearing an ankle bracelet for the time being. Under those circumstances, I would say it needs to be treated a little more forcefully.

Or, everyone can just sit on their hands, and let this turn into another UW-type situation that happened under Rick Neuheisel.

Canzano’s article is so bad. He cries for a response for 20 paragraphs, yet offers no solution. Pure nonsense, as usual.

Has uncle Phi commented on Tiger yet?

Yes, right when this happened he said he fully supports Tiger and what he is going through.

Ski, I posted this hours before Canzano graced the world with his thoughts. It isn’t my fault that great minds think alike.

BTW, why did this post disappear from the site? Censorship is a bitch…
