Young Studs

I know this isn’t as interesting as Duck football players doing stupid things in the off-season but if you’re into baseball, it should be. Steven Strasburg and Aroldis Chapman have both recently made their spring training debuts and certainly didn’t disappoint. If you have never seen or heard of these guys, you soon will because they throw absolute cheese or gas or heat. They bring the ruckus!

The unfortunate thing is that both these guys are playing for terrible teams, Strasburg with the Nationals and Chapman with the Reds. That said they have a chance to make them relevant again which is a very cool thing. Both guys throw 100 mph fastballs and have “devastating” off speed pitches. That is basically the complete package at least when it comes to stuff. If they can avoid injury and keep their command this season should be a very fun one to follow. Guys like this don’t come around very often and this year we happen to have 2 of em.

With Strasburg being a righty and Chapman a lefty, hitters in the NL will have their hands full. Once these guys overcome the jitters and learn the importance of throwing strikes they could be nearly unstoppable. Hopefully being in terrible organizations will benefit us as fans and they will start the season up in the bigs or at  least be up there in no time. There’s a lot of hype and that too should help us keep an eye on these guys. I know its only spring training but start paying attention to these 2 young studs because they bring something to the game that we don’t often get to see.

To those of you who play in the fantasy leagues, definitely look for either one if not both guys. They may not get you many wins but other numbers should be nasty.

I haven’t seen much of Chapman, but I can only think of one lefty starter in the last 40 years to pump triple digits AND stay healthy and that’s the Big Unit.

Apparently Strasburg is as polished as they come young, hope he has a better career than the last guy to be this hyped – Mark Prior.

With Strasburg pitching for the Nats (sometime this summer) … there’s the chance he’d face Halladay of the Phillies one day this season. Man, I’d luv a ticket to that game.

Lets hope the Nats and Reds don’t take a page from the Yanks in how they play their young hurlers.

that would be brutal if they do. gotta think thats a perfect example of why they shouldn’t do that and someone within the organizations has pointed that out.
