Yanks are in big trouble

Yanks are in big trouble

Posted on 24. May, 2010 at 5:02 am by in Baseball, Boston Red Sox, MLB Baseball

As much as it pains me to say this, its obvious that the Yankees are struggling. I’ve got see it first hand because last night they were on national TV for like the 8th time in the last 2 weeks. I say they are in big trouble because their age has become extremely noticeable of late. Jeter is slumping like never before and Teixeira has been awful. Pettitte was great for 4 starts but we all know that is not going to continue. Posada is going on the DL where he’ll be joining a handful of other Yankees. Even the new young ”ace” Hughes has been lit his last 2 times out and even Rivera has been getting torched (meaning he gave up his first runs of the year). Joba gave up something like 6 runs in his last 2 outings and Burnett has been his usual inconsistent self, lately he’s been terrible. About 3 weeks ago CC Sabathia went 4 and two thirds before an hour rain delay against the Red Sox. The Yanks were up big in the game and when the game resumed Cookie chose not to back out and get the win, which was the right decision because of possible injuries and all. Right now I bet he’s wishing that he would have come back in and got that win because at this point I’m not so sure he’ll ever get another one.

This streak that the Yankees are in the middle of is about as bad as it can get for a team with that much talent. It’s to the point where every time they have runners at first and third with one out, they strike out or hit into a double play. When the opponents have runners on first with two outs, they find a gap and score the run. In no way am I trying to discredit what these other teams are doing but I’m just pointing out how its not always gonna be this bad. One of the great parts of baseball is that their are so many little things that can effect the outcome of a game. These are things that non baseball fans probably don’t recognize but right now all of those things are going wrong with the Yanks.

A lot of the problems that they were having at the start of year were being covered up by fantastic starts by Brett Gardner, Robinson Cano, and Francisco Cervelli. No surprise at all that 2 of them have completely gone cold (Cervelli and Gardner). While Cano has maintained a very solid start he too has fallen off in May. The one bright spot for the team right now would have to be A-rod. He’s got his AVGback up around .300 and he’s near the top of the leader board in RBI. Bright spot is even tough to say though because he’s only got 6 bombs to this point.

It’s very clear that the Rays are the best team in the AL East, and all of baseball, and the Yanks, Sox, and maybe Jays will be playing for a wild-card berth. The Red Sox have gotten it going here in the last couple days and that only means trouble in New York. I can only hope that not playing on national TV for a while will benefit this team. I haven’t checked but no TV games probably means the schedule will be a little bit easier for them in June. The way its going and the way I think its going to continue to go is not good. I gotta say I’m actually glad I won’t be able to watch them for a while. Hopefully the next time I do get a chance to see them, they have righted the ship.

If you want to, go here and notice the lack of Yankee players in just about every good stat in the game.

Easy there big man. It’s still May for another week. I agree that the Yanks injuries are in part due to age, but Jorge is a still a work horse who’ll be solid once again come summer. Jeets is showing some minor signs of aging, but he goes 3-5 last night to prove that he can still play on big nights when it matters.Once Big Tex pulls his head square out of his a$$, our offense will once again be a HUGE problem for the AL East.

As for youth, the Rays have it and the Yanks keep sending it out of town. Granted, Melky never really lit the world on fire, but he’s WAY better than Randy Winn and Thames. Why we ever gave up our best prospect in 15 years for a guy who cannot hit a left-handed pitcher to save his a$$ (Granderson) is beyond me. That move could prove to be the worst move ever by the Yanks if Jackson has the kind of career that we all know he’s capable of having.

Remember, there’s still a boat ton of games against the AL East for our Yanks to either prove they belong or have another rollercoaster season like 1997…. Let’s hope it’s the previous.

Goodplaye … shotgun a beer and relax.

The Yanks and Twins are tied for the 2nd best record in the AL. True, the Rays are not showing signs of slowing and probably won’t because of their youth. So NY only needs to beat down Boston when they meet up because you know the Jays will fade and Baltimore is dog meat.

Outside the AL East, NY needs to keep Detroit in check.

And you’ll see all those Sawx & Tigers games on ESPN/TBS/FOX for sure.

It is only May, but right now NY would be playing 4-outta-7 at Target Field if the playoffs were to begin now.

And unfortunately for you, I’d be rooting for Joe Mauer like he was a 3-breasted Hooters girl at a wet t-shirt contest.

I’m glad I checked that link out b/c the A Bomber is mobbing this year. At least a lot more than people think. All his #s are real good besides the bombs. And when you’re on pace for 120 RsBI and runs scored, it doesn’t matter that you’re not hitting homers.

Watch out for those pesky Black and Gray Jays.

I would like to give a big middle finger to the schedule makers right now. @NY, Minny, @ Philly and @TB in their last 4 series. Geez MLB, way to try and bury the Sox before it’s even June

It is only May, but right now NY would be playing 4-outta-73-outta-5 at Target Field if the playoffs were to begin now.

Nothing lamer than a 5 game baseball playoff series.

Ah yes, baseball mobs. If .500 ball for the month is as bad as it gets, then they should have nothing to worry about, especially if you are a team that can bat one of best players in the game(Robbie C.) in the 5 hole…The Yankees worst is as good or better then the M’s best, yet the M’s are only 2 games farther back of first in their respective divisions. Imagine when Tui, Griffey, Milton, and Wilson begin to hit like those Yank’s are expected? LOL, and the Unit comes back to shove. God the M’s are brutal!

Take that weak Phillies smack and post it on your Phillies posts that nobody else reads nor comments. Then maybe the number of replies to your posts will exceed 2 from time to time…

    Thanks Mick!

I was only gonna write “thanks for the correction bbryan” … but figured you’d be reading up this post again and so i thought i’d drop a turd on the Rockies at the same time … just to ruffle your feathers … mission accomplished.

Haha what i’m talking about really doesn’t apply to any of the other teams in baseball. I was more talking about the fact that they don’t appear to be the dominant team in baseball or the AL or the AL EAST. They do have the best players and the bottom line is that they should be better than what they have been the last couple weeks.

Everyone who was dogging on the red sox being in the top 10 of the power rankings is now a fool. They are getting hot and are in the middle of beating down the Rays as we speak. Check out the june power rankings cause i’ll bet they make the top 5.

The Rays are the best team in baseball. It is painfully obvious.

    BTW, Papi is back!

None the less, your typical Phillie fan smack is always weak…

The Sox have 12 games against the NL West in June. If they don’t come out of that stretch with 9 wins then that’s pretty sad. Also, they play 14 games against the AL West in July. If they can’t get hot during those two months then they are a complete joke.

The Yanks don’t have a killer schedule as well, but they do play the Phils and Mets at home…. Gonna get interesting in the heat of summer

Did you all happen to see Jeter’s play in the hole today and the bullet he threw? How about the three double plays that he turned with Cano?!? If the Yanks are going to have a chance this year then they are going to have to follow his lead once again!
