Take a seat Timmy!

Today’s player comparison is gonna be between yesterday’s matchup of two of the best young pithers in baseball. Today it’s simple, who would you rather have on your team, Jon Lester or Tim Lincecum? Not that the results of yesterday’s game really have any impact on who you’re gonna pick, but here they are:

Lester: 9.0 IP, 9 k’s, 5 Hits, 1 BB, and 1 ER  in getting the W

Lincecum: 3.0 IP, 4 k’s, 5 Hits, 3 BB and 4 ER in getting the L

Clearly Lester got the best of Timmy yesterday but we all know how good both of these guys are. I’ll do the usual and throw some numbers at you to help make the decision of you are gonna take between the two. You will see that this is another comparison of 2 guys that have very similar numbers and you really can’t make a bad pick here.

Lester’s career numbers: 107 starts with a record of 51 – 19 (pretty spectacular), 665 IP , 598 k’s, 245 BB, 3.56 ERA, and 1.31 WHIP. He throws lefty and is 26 years old. He is listed at 6-4, and 240 lbs (not sure I believe that weight). This years salary is $3.75 million. He has a no hitter, a world series ring, and has overcome cancer (not a bad resume). Oh yeah and one hot lady.

Lincecum’s career numbers: 105 starts with record of 48 – 20 (also spectacular), 702 IP, 793 k’s, 259 BB, 2.91 ERA, and 1.17 WHIP. He throws righty and he just turned 26 years old. He is listed at 5-11, 170 lbs. This years salary is $9 million. He is a 2 time all star and he’s coming off back to back Cy Young awards.

One thing to keep in mind is where these guys play. Lester is doing this in the best division in baseball where every team can mash. Also Fenway is definitely a hitters park. Timmy gets a lot of extra K’s against the pitchers spot and he’s pitching in a pitchers park for sure.

I’m taking Lester. He gets better and better every year and again, he does it in the AL East. I’d settle for either though thats for sure.

Lester and Buchholz, the best 1-2 combo in the majors right now?
