Should the Mariners pursue Wang

After resigning King Felix and adding Cliff Lee the Mariners have definitely bolstered their starting rotation, but even with having these 2 aces is their starting 5 is their rotation really that good. With Lee and Felix 1 and 2 the Mariners are filling the rest of their rotation with Ian Snell, Ryan Rowland-Smith , Luke French or Garret Olsen none of them should be a #3 starter for any team, but what are the Mariners options other then them. Well with the Yankees just giving up on Chien-Ming the Mariners should make a heavy push to acquire the 30 year old righty. Now Wang is coming off of shoulder surgery and exiting just a horrible season (1-6 with a 9.64 era), but he has proven to be one of the dominant pitchers in the A.L the previous 3 years (46-15 with a sub 4.00 era, with 2 19 win seasons). His agent Alan Nero is saying that 15 teams are interested in Wang but none of them have really made a strong push to get him so the Mariners still have a chance. He initially hurt his ankle in an inter-league game when running home and he hasn’t got a hit in 14 career at-bats so going to an N.L team should be low on his choice of teams. While the Mariners being in the A.L have also been known to be very friendly to the Asian born players currently having 2 on their roster including their manager Don Wakimatsu, so it could be a friendly environment for Wang to come to. No one ever knows how players are going to come back from having shoulder surgery but Wang just seems like the perfect guy to come in and help out this staff, because looking at their potential starting lineup I don’t see them scoring a lot of runs a game so pitching will the the key to their success.

All of the sabermetrics have been against Wangs success for years. Looks like the bubble may have finally popped.

Chang Mang would be a brilliant addition. No reason not to take a shot, but by the sounds of his agent “no team has made a strong push” he’s asking for way too much money. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s asking for money like he DIDN’T have a really bad season last year.

Wang couldn’t find the strike zone the last two years very often. And when he did he found lots of bats as well…. Wang was hit harder than a virgin’s honey pot on prom night.
