Roy Oswalt want’s out…Where does he go?

Since the season began everyone has thought that Roy Oswalt would be traded before the trade deadline. We didn’t know how since he had one of those pesky no-trade clauses in his contract, but one way or another the Astros would find a way to deal him. Then right have the season began Oswalt helped solve that problem by saying he would waive his no-trade clause. Now he has gone even one step further in saying that he wants out of Houston.

Why would he want out of Houston?

One big reason is he is 2-6. He’s 2-6 and has an Era of 2.66. That is 9th best in the NL and all he gets is 2 wins. No wonder he wants out. Lets go a little deeper and look some of his years in Houston.

Last year he had his career worst Era of 4.12. 4.12 is not a great Era, but that is no way terrible. And how did he finish. 8-6. He had 14 decisions in his 30 starts. With 3 CG’s. That takes a terrible bullpen and terrible hitters to give a guy like Oswalt 14 decisions.

Let’s look at Oswalt’s 2 best years 2004 and 05. In 04 he went 20-10 with a 3.49. His Era was a little high, but he logged 237 innings and struck out 206. He finished 3rd in the CY. Next year he was 20-12 with a 2.94. He had a career high in innings with 241.2 and had 184 K’s. He finished 2nd in the CY. If you put Oswalt on any team that can score some runs with a bullpen that doesn’t implode and you could be looking at back to back 25 win seasons. I mean you don’t see guys with 20 wins have 10 or losses. Not to mention I also lost $1500 because Dan Wheeler couldn’t close out a win for Roy and gave up 6 in the 8th. God damn Dan Wheeler.

So what team would want Roy?

Every team would want him, but what are the most likely places that he would end up.

5. Yankees/Redsox: Well both teams have 5 strong starters, but you can never count them out of a big name player.

4. Angels: A move out west could be exactly what Roy needs. Add in that the Halo’s have lost their ace and you could slot him in the top of that rotation. He could be the difference maker in who takes this division.

3. Twins: The Twins lack a true #1 and if you put Roy onto they would have more than enough pitching to contend for the World Series. Plus Roy would love all that runs support by the potent Twins lineup. Also wouldn’t he fit right in with all those good ole boys up in Minnesota.

2. Braves: If Roy were to stay in the NL the top team would have to be the Braves. They’re not in the same division as the Stros and with the Braves looking up at the Phils and that dirty staff I can see them pushing hard to land Roy.

1. Rangers: My most logical team for Roy to end up in is Texas. He’s been in Texas his whole playing career and wouldn’t have to relocate his family that far. The Rangers are also on top of the West right now by 4 games and that’s with a pretty meager rotation. Throw Roy on that team with all those sluggers and he wouldn’t have to deal with to many No Decisions anymore.

Whatever team Oswalt lands with he will make an immediate impact on that team.

Fucking Dan Wheeler…

I’m sure Nolan Ryan is on the phone right now with Ed Wade finding out what it will cost him.
