Miguel Cabrera is going against the grain

In a season where Sportscenter anchors and other baseball media types have quickly dubbed 2010 the year of the pitcher … one baller seems to be swimming upstream.
Who is that plucky salmon? … it’s Miggie the Tiger.
[yeah, i know, i got 'man', 'salmon', 'tiger' all in 3 sentences, deal with it]
Miguel Cabrera is within striking distance of the coveted prize of hitting royalty … the Triple Crown.
With 2 months left in the long MLB season, Cabrera just needs to stay consistent, mix in a bit of a hot streak, and hope some other fellas cool off. Alright, so maybe that is a bit of a tall order. But that is what the dude has to do to win it.
Check out the race:
| AVG | ||
| 1. | Hamilton (TEX) | .354 |
| 2. | Cabrera (DET) | .345 |
| 3. | Morneau (MIN) | .345 |
| 4. | Beltre (BOS) | .336 |
| 5. | Cano (NYY) | .332 |
| 6. | Young (MIN) | .325 |
.
| HRs | ||
| 1. | Bautista (TOR) | 34 |
| 2. | Dunn (WSN) | 30 |
| 3. | Pujols (STL) | 28 |
| 4. | Votto (CIN) | 27 |
| Konerko (CHW) | 27 | |
| 6. | Cabrera (DET) | 26 |
.
| RBIs | ||
| 1. | Cabrera (DET) | 93 |
| 2. | Rodriguez (NYY) | 88 |
| 3. | Guerrero (TEX) | 86 |
| 4. | Bautista (TOR) | 85 |
| 5. | Young(MIN) | 83 |
| Teixeira (NYY) | 83 | |
Can Josh Hamilton keep up that .354 pace for 2 more months with a bum knee?
Can Jose Bautista, the darkhorse of 2010, keep up his HR pace?
Obviously, of the three categories, it will be HRs that will be the most difficult to win for Cabrera. But all it takes is one hot 2 week stretch for Miggie to rise up and make everyone turn their head and notice an assault on the crown. Especially, now that the A-Rod 600 HR drama is behind us. Refreshingly, we can focus on something worth getting behind. Like an achievement that has not been done since Yaz in 1967 (.326-44-121).
Aren’t we waaaaaay overdue for a Triple Crown? It would be sneaky-fitting in this so-called year of the pitcher, when no-nos (and flirting ones) are more prevalent than Kardashian sisters, to have a guy burst out in September and grab the elusive crown.
So from this point on, maybe you can join me in some fist-pumping every time:
- - Jose Bautista hits a grounder
- - Josh Hamilton goes 0-4
- - Miggie hits a 3-run bomb
- - Dunn and Pujols have a brief stint on the DL
- - Okay, that last one was mean (i take it back because Albert is the man)
- - How about A-Rod Ks with bases loaded, instead? (sorry goodplaye … okay, not really)
- - Watching Morneau hit into an inning ending GIDP
- - Joey Votto gets food poisoning from a bad canoli (dude rubs me the wrong way)
- - Joey Votto lacerates himself while weed-whacking (fuck him!, my phils need the WC spot)
That’s all I got. So I’m jumping on the Miggie for Triple Crown shuttle bus right now (no wagon, this isn’t the fucking Oregon Trail!).
I suggest you do as well. Or I will brand you a Communist. Just because I can … it’s weak, I know. So just follow my lead then and there will be no problems.

That’s quite possibly your best post man… Even though I don’t want to see A-Rod K with the based chucked, I agree that baseball could really use another Triple Crown winner. How great of a story would that make?? A guy puts down the bottle and then proceeds to win the Triple Crown! That would be pretty sweet!

He doesn’t need to worry about Dunn, Pujols or Votto, Triple Crown is based per league.

Just to add some good baseball fuel to the fire: out of the 15 triple crowns in the history of baseball, which one was the greatest?

Gotta be the Mick’s, eh Mick?

Not really D. The Mick’s was solid, but Gehrig’s in 1934 was just plain nuts! 49 Jacks and 165 RBI is straight up dropping dick (without roids).

I actually knew the TC was for each league, but figured I’d focus on him going for the MLB version, just to make it more of an accomplishment.

there’s actually real good chance that either Votto or Pujols wins it in the NL, not gonna be near the numbers as the AL guys but still a triple crown.
