I’m Going to Love/Hate Milton Bradley All Year

Already having a roller coaster season, Milton Bradley has made me scream at the TV – and by happy to have him as a Mariner – a few times in the short beginning to the 2010 season.  No more evident than last night.

Down 2 in the 2nd (actually a substantial deficit for the Mariners with their offense), Milton grounded to the left side and Jose Lopez got in a pickle between 2nd and 3rd.  Lopez wasn’t tagged out for 9 seconds.  9 SECONDS, and Milton couldn’t make it to 2nd base!  Lopez even waved at him to go.  It’s a type of baseball play you’re taught no later than high school to go get your ass to the furthest bag you can while the guy is in the pickle.  But, it requires someone to run hard.  You know, sprint.  Most big leaguers don’t make that play anyway and certainly not a guy like Milton Bradley.  I almost threw my beer through the TV when Mike bleepin’ Blowers backed Milton.  I was satisfied after his next at bat when he K’d and was promptly booed off the field by a few of the 892 (via the eye test) people in attendance.

All was good in the I hate Milton world until he tied the game in his very next at bat with a clutch 2 out, 2 run single.  Got to love a guy who doesn’t give a *&^% and just goes up there and rips it in the clutch.  THAT is something the Mariners need to have this year since they can’t hit anything outta the yard.  So it’s settled, I’m going to be doing this, or that, when I watch Milton play this year.  God damn it.

What happened to Bone? I thought he was the next Blowers? Even if it was a special case that Bone was doing the game when Milton jacked a 3 runner, why, in a game full of superstitions would you not keep him in the booth until the M’s lost again? The dude called Bradley’s jack! And Simms had a classic Niehaus moment (yelling incoherently) after Bradley answered Bone’s call.

That was a pathetic display by Simms the other night. It was the 9th game of the season for Christ’s sake. Perhaps after watching the Mariners not score for 20 innings against the vaunted A’s staff he wasn’t sure if he’d ever see a ball jump out of the yard again.

When Bone makes his token appearances at the Safe, he usually jumps to the booth for a short while also. You’re right, you don’t mess w/ a call like that: get him back in there.
