Jimenez not getting the credit he deserves…on this site

I’m as guilty as anyone else but for some reason we seem to do a whole bunch of baseball posts and we never even mention the season that Ubaldo Jimenezis having. If you take a close look at the numbers it is amazing. The guy has been unbelievable and so I thought it would be worth it to give him some love on our site. I know for sure that at least Mick will happy about it. Surprised we all haven’t been hearing a little more outta Mick about Ubaldo.

The first stat that is unreal is that he has 12 starts on the year, and has only given up 9 earned runs. I mean he’s on pace to give up like 28 runs in 35 starts…wow. He has a whip under 1.o (0.93)  with a .176 avg against. Those are the crazy good numbers that really jump out at me. There are the obvious ones like 12 wins and 0.93 era. He’s only 10 k’s behind the leader for the triple crown of pitching. Not that the triple crown in pitching is as coveted as it is for hitting, but it’s still a sick nasty thing to win. Keep in mind he’s been doing this while pitching at arguably the best hitters park in all of baseball.

The one knock that people are gonna have is that he’s doing this against the NL first of all, and also the NL West which is not good. Regardless of what league he’s in or who he’s pitching against, nobody has ever had a start to a season like this one. Hopefully he can keep up these numbers and maybe somewhere down the line he’ll get a chance to show us all what he’s got on national tv. I’m curious what the coverage would be like if this were a different guy in a different market putting up these numbers, gotta think we’d all be hearing a bit more about it.

If Ubaldo played on a team that played more games on national TV then he would the guy on every so-so baseball fan’s tongue. I’m actually really glad that he’s not because he’s doing special things for baseball in the Mile High city. He’e single-handedly stopped every losing slide the Rox have had this year (think we’re up to 4 or 5). He’s getting people really excited about baseball in Denver again before the month of July. Typically, the games are either too freaking cold or we just plain suck before the second week in June….. But with Ubaldo chucking the pill, we’ve had some great crowds for his starts and even okay ones for the other games. People are starting to realize that this team could be really special especially with Ubaldo leadind the charge.

Also, be very weary about my post to start the year…. The Rox are a few games over .500 barely playing any series at home yet…

He deals. His stuff is as nasty as Kevin Brown when he was shoving for the Padres in the late 90s, but on ‘roids.
