What is, things you find at Eugene Emeralds Media Day, Alex?

The Ems open up the 2011 season tomorrow night, but today the local media (ahem) elite got the royal treatment out at PK Park.

When we weren’t busy kicking back watermelon, burgers and dogs, we were being entertained by the likes of the always reliable Ems mascot, Sluggo, as well as the YouTube sensation Domingo Ayala.

Kinger meets his new best friend.

“For all those players celebrated for their abilities, it was nice to have him come out,” manager Pat Murphy said about the moustachioed empresario.

General Manager Allan Benavides said not many people outside of the team knew who he was, but when he introduced Ayala to the players as a “big time free agent signee” they all went wild.

Murphy said mini camp started June 10, so he obviously hasn’t had a ton of time to spend with his team. Lightening the mood before opening day, the first professional game for most of his players, was a goal of Murphy and Benavides.

“We wanted everyone to have fun and be relaxed,” Benavides said.

He said the three things he wants to accomplish for fans every night are having short lines, good food and that people are able to get in easily.

Sounds good to me. See you tomorrow night, brotha.

On to some actual baseball talk.

Given that Murphy hasn’t had a lot of time with his team, he only has a general idea of what his lineup will look like tomorrow night.

“It’s a little early to tell because we’re in the evaluation stage, but right now the goal is to get everyone on the same page, and get used to each other and used to the community,” he said.

So obviously any sort of pitching rotation is going to be hard to tell at this point, but Murphy said the state of the organization helps with the early stages of the season.

“With a healthy organization like we have here we get those who will get the most reps,” he said. “You take what they give you and just roll.

“My job is to teach winning baseball and help players develop into winning players.”

He did say, however, that San Diego Padres first round pick, Cory Spangenberg, will be in the lineup at second base.

Spangenberg was the tenth overall selection in the 2011 draft and signed a cool $1.8 million signing bonus last week. So it begs the question, whose car is this?

I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

In case you’re wondering, yes, I’m jealous of this car. Must be nice to be a short-season Class A player who can buy a house to live in while he’s in town. Seriously not hating at all. Dude is clearly living the life.

Speaking of which, check me out with the homie Sluggo

We're real big in the streets

By the way, that’s Murphy over my shoulder being interviewed by the TV folk. This is what I do instead of work, apparently.

Was that King or Kirstie Alley?

Shit man, did you leave any hot dogs or hamburgers for the other 500 fans at the game? Mix in a salad or a jog homie. You’re headed for a heart attack at 30….

I know no one gives a shit, but since Mick is so concerned with my physical appearance and well being, here we go: I am allergic to the sulfites in alcohol, tempted the fates and drank some wine at a dinner one night. Basically what happens is my whole body breaks out in gigantic and painful hives. My eyes shut, and the hives on the arches of my feet make it nearly impossible to walk. Was on Prednisone to varying degrees from early September to the middle of May. But you know what, I’ll take the 30 lbs its caused me to gain and the bigger dome, for the ability to open my eyes and not crawl around the house.

It does stink that I can only really drink the light Keystones and Coors of the world, but such is life.

STER: He literally just walks around and goofs off with people. As you can see he led stretching for a while. Not a real player. I was included in the people who had never heard of him before, but King loved the dude. Besties 4 Ever. That uni he was wearing is quality, though.

Alright, that was a mis-guided dickhead rant that would have been better done with a single joke… On the other hand, if drinking almost kills you, King, then why not just stick to the fine herb in Eugene? Is the sticky-icky not so icky anymore?

the fiancee has the same sulfite problem. Her hands and feet literally swell. Kinger, word to the wise: Sake. No sulfites, usually; and a lot stronger than wine. Chill that shit, and you’re set when it’s hot out. Don’t say I never gave you anything. Braga, is Bob Beeban still affiliated with the club, or has he moved on?

I think the only thing about Ayala I didn’t like was that he talked to me while wearing his sunglasses. That’s a big pet peeve I have. Other than that, he was pretty harmless.

@STER: Nobody like the guy who bogards herb. Share with big King so he doesn’t have to resort to cheap Sangreia wine.
