Chargers Dump LT

Chargers Dump LT

The great LaDainian Tomlinson was released by the San Diego Chargers today, proving the NFL is as cut-throat a league as we’ve come to expect .

With declining skills (i.e., he’s 30 and not as fast as he use to be), LT’s production has dropped significantly over the last couple years.  He posted career lows in, among other things, yards, yards per attempt, receptions, and receiving yards – all while missing only 2 games. You can attribute the near 25 rushes/receptions he’s averaged per game over his first 7 seasons to his decline, quite a significant beating he’s taken.

What does this mean for LT? Well, the direction of his career is up to him.  He can still shoot to be a starter, which a failing team (wins or financial) may very well take that shot. He’s a star with the perverbial chip on his shoulder to try and regain his dominance.  However, his best option is to become part of a tandem backfield, one in which he is not the featured back. If he truly wants to win Super Bowl, he will exercise this option.  He could go to a team that needs a secondary back, take less of a beating physically, and keep his legacy intact as an all-time great back.

Or he could pull a Tiki and just end it.  Who could blame a guy who has made many millions and taking a beating that will impact his health for the rest of his life?  If LT does stick around, let’s hope he swallows his pride and takes a diminished role.

If LT’s ego can dial down a bit … Houston would be a good fit.

I could see LT down there in Kub’s offense…. That move could possibly put them over the edge in the South and make them a real force. Although since young Shanahan left to work with his old man in Washington, Houston’s offsense could struggle with a new coordinator.

And Mick thinks I’m washed up?

Apparently Mick doesn’t watch a lot of football and notice what happens to feature backs once they turn 30.

LT putting the Texans over the edge? You just can’t make this stuff up.

Apparently King is unable to come up with a unique thought. John Clayton says that same shit every fucking year. King, I know it’s hard working with a 70 IQ, but please dig down deep and try to say something original.

“Unique?” Huh? It has nothing to do with being unique, it’s all about being logical. If you haven’t noticed that backs become non-factors after 30, or that LTs skills have been eroding for a couple of years, than you haven’t been paying attention.

But sure, be unique, tell us all of LT making the Texans a “real force.” Sure, everyone will scoff at you, but at least you’re unique and original, right?

Looks like LT isn’t alone on the streets … Eagles released B-West today

But with Westbrook’s concussion history, it’s likely his days as a RB are over.

What a 1st and 10 debate today: is there a spot for LT in Canton?

WOW. The only question is where is this guy amongst the top 10 backs of all-time.

Top 10 all time is a maybe for me…. Obviously top 20, but there are guys with better stats who have played longer than LT. I’m a guy who likes players who produce in the post season and get rings…. Would like to see him get one before he calls it quits (preferably with my Donkeys!)
