Why the hype surounding the Huskies?

As I have said before, you know it’s summer time in the PNW when Husky Honks are on point, screaming about how they “are back!”
While the constant delusions of grandeur are amusing, they also get tired after awhile.
This year is no exception as Doog fans have already made some pretty lofty predictions (some leading to Pasadena) behind the obvious genius that is Steve ‘The Dawg Father II” Sarkisian and the chosen one, none other than Jake Locker.
Now, perhaps some of the unfounded optimism was quelled a bit yesterday when the Pac-10 media picked UW to finish 6th. Though, probably not. I mean now Sark can play the extremely original and fresh ‘underdog’ card to motivate his players, right?
There are some positives in regards to UW, but how hard is that when you went 0-12 in 2008? Jake Locker will never live up to the ‘Montlake Messiah’ tag, but he could be okay. UW fans will tell you to throw out his 9 and 20 record as a starter or his generally pedestrian stats, as those were all the fault of Ty Willingham! Locker hasn’t been anything better than an honorable mention selection at the end of the year, but now he is supposed to be John Elway? Baffling. Though, he does look really good in a cut-off tee and shorts slinging the ball around during the summer when there are no defenders around.
Chris Polk did rush for over 1,000 last year and the receivers are pretty good. But excuse me if I don’t think Jermaine Kearse and Devin Augilar are the next Dwayne Jarrett or Mike Williams. Of course though if you talk to a UW fan they will probably compare these guys to the St Louis Rams group from 99…
UW should score some points, but man are they going to have to. That defense they got up there is ugly. Just look at what the Ducks and Beavers did to them. Not only did they just put up big numbers, they physically dominated them and took their lunch money midway through the 3rd quarters. Both lines for UW are average at best, and with almost no depth. One injury and the flood gates could open.
Any defense that can allow this and make Danny Sullivan look good, has to be a major concern.
The schedule also does UW no favors. Road trips to BYU, USC, Arizona, Oregon and Cal, will be no easy task for a team that hasn’t won a road game since November 3rd 2007. I thought the sign of a great QB was how they do on the road? Interesting…
Aside from Locker, the number one reason Husky Honks are just overflowing with confidence is none other than the Oregon Ducks. Talk to any Honk and here is what you will most likely get:
“I mean, it’s clear that Chip Kelly is in over his head, with his gimmicky offense and band of thugs. Who’s gonna run that gimmick they pass-off as a legit O in Eugene??? James was just a product of the system, a system in taters without Masoli!! Did I mention that offense is a gimmick?? Who’s gonna want to play there, when Sark runs a pro-style system!!! We won the Rose Bowl in 2000. Bark for Sark, Purple Drank, Jake Locker!” Bla, bla, bla…. But, so is the life as an also ran. Always running for the big gun and taking shots at big brother. But what do you expect from a fan base that takes their orders from Softy Mahler?
Washington will be better, and may even sneak into some bowl game probably played on like December 9th, I will concede that. But talks of Rose Bowl and Heisman Trophy contenders? Come on, leave that to programs that know something about it.
Leave it to the Ducks, and leave it to the Trojans. Sorry UW, but there’s always softball season!

That Chris McGaha TD is hilarious. How do 2 receivers get behind the defense with 13 seconds on the clock!?!?!
I agree, Locker and the offense will be better … and that defense will have huge question marks hanging over it all season long.

The Huskies are like the Chicago Cubs, minus the lovable part.

It’s funny, because 2 years ago the Huskies were 0-12, and then they almost won like 7 games last year and could have only won 4 and yet here they have a nationally recognized QB who’s getting talk shows on ESPN and they are getting 4 star recruits in June….it’s like they have a reason for excitement. What i think this is (article) a little bit of jealousy maybe, or envy at the fact that this has all happened in 2 years, because the quacks had a full decade to themselves in the PNW and what have they done…honestly. And the end of you article, funny you try to link the quacks and SC for Heisman history… because there’s sooo much at Oregon…blahahaha! I recognize the quacks as the 2nd best in conference and in no way do I think the Huskies will make a BCS bowl but excited I am about the possibilities. So yes, Softy might be a tad bit honkish but to paint all Huskies in that fashion is a little dramatic. Most of us are realistic who see a lot of positives going on right now and are very enthused about where the program is going and for that you will get no apologies.

Sorry Dawg Father, I don’t see any jealousy in this article. And honestly, why would anyone outside of Pullman be jealous of UW?
Chip Kelly is on the Dan Patrick show like every month, has done multiple pieces on Rome Is Burning, and was on the Scott Van Pelt Show just the other day. And here is a guess, Kelly will be around as a media darling a lot longer than Locker will…
4 star recruits? Yeah, sorry dude but Oregon is getting them as well. Just go check out Rivals.com (though as a honk you will probably check out Scout as it is run by UW alums…) Oregon is pulling in not only 4 star guys, but pulling studs out of Miami.
If you are a Husky Honk, you take your marching orders from Softy, Baird and Millen. It’s just a fact. That’s probably why the Honks are always so absurdly wrong about their team.
bow down to hopes of winning 6 games….

Let me fix that for you “Kelly will be a round media darling a lot longer than Locker”, now that makes sense. They were being talked about on RIB for jailtime headlines. Yeah you guys have been getting 4 star recruits…for years…. how many championships and RoseBowl trophies did that get ya? Now we have a Staff dedicated to winning championships from a championship background, so i guess jealousy was the wrong term, i’m guessing worried is much better. there will be no more easy victories for the quacks in the border war for a long time.

It’s been 2,471 days since the Huskies have been within 20 points of the ducks. Worried is not the correct term.

Yeah, Doog Father, people are just shacking in their boots…
Your amazing staff and awesome QB really put a scare in the Ducks last year….
The UW program died the day Don James packed his bags and quit on his players, it’s just a fact. Since that time Wazzu has gone to 2 Rose Bowls, OSU won a Fiesta and the Ducks have been to two Roses won a Fiesta (screwed out of title game) and won 4 Pac-10 titles.
The accomplishments under James were sweet, but times have changed. Scholarship limits, frowning on paying for Cameros, ect….
it is truly sad some of the Honks can’t let go of the late 80s and early 90s. I’m guessing you also think the Redskins are Super Bowl contenders, Magic Johnson rules and Chris Sabo is a true star?
Go back to Condotta’s blog and turn up KJR real loud, you don’t got the chops to hang here.
