The Only Awards That Matter: The Sports Brewery 2010 Pac-10 Football Awards

Having given coaches and players enough time to sufficiently bribe voters–and after several calls for recounts based mostly on the beverage of choice (Wait, that didn’t count! I drank too many Four Lokos when I voted!) chosen to be under the influence of when voting–your annual TSB Pac-10 football awards are here.

There were some runaways and some very close counts, but after several taxing weeks of TSB statisticians and videographers going through footage and seemingly endless stat sheets, we have your, er, winners.

The Sports Brewery Player of the Year: LaMichael James

  • Others receiving votes: Andrew Luck and Stephen Paea

Offensive Player of the Year: LaMichael James

  • Others receiving votes: Andrew Luck

Defensive Player of the Year: Tie: Casey Mathews, Mason Foster and Stephen Paea

Washington's lone bright spot in 2010, Mason Foster.

Special Teams Player of the Year: Cliff Harris (unanimous)

Coach Of the Year: Chip Kelly (unanimous)

Best QB: Andrew Luck (unanimous)

Best RB: LaMichael James (unanimous)
Best WR: Juron Criner

Criner owned Cliff Harris two years in a row.

  • Others receiving votes: Jeff Maehl and Robert Woods

Best Lineman (offense and defense): Stephen Paea

  • Others receiving votes: Chase Beeler, Jordan Holmes, Ricky Elmore and Jurel Casey

Best LB: Casey Mathews

  • Others receiving votes: Mason Foster, Akeem Ayers and Vontaze Burfict

Best DB: Omar Bolden

  • Others receiving votes: Talmage Jackson III, Tony Dye and Rahim Moore

Best Cheap Shot: The punch that started the USC vs. UCLA fan brawl

  • Others receiving votes: Chip Kelly at halftime vs. Stanford and the WSU player who tackled JacQuizz Rodgers 15 yards out of bounds.

Play of the Year: LaMichael James’s 72-yard touchdown run vs. Tennessee.

  • Others receiving votes: Oregon’s fake extra point hand-off to kicker Rob Beard, Chris Owussu fumble vs. Oregon, Jeff Maehl’s touchdown catch vs. USC and Oregon’s entire final drive vs. Cal.

Best Horseface: Andrew Luck

  • Others receiving votes: Mike Riley 2 pt try at Washington, Cliff Harris jump-catch on a punt return vs Stanford, USC hiring Lane Kiffin, Tosh Lupoi, Cal’s defensive coach, for telling players to fake injuries and Mike Riley’s FG from the 5-yard line down 13 points in the 4th vs. Oregon.
