Stanford will move up to fourth this week in the new BCS rankings that will be announced tomorrow at 5 P.M. on ESPN, according to bcsknowhow.com.

Combined with a convincing 38-0 win over Oregon State, LSU’s 31-23 loss to Arkansas, and Boise City’s 34-31 overtime loss to Nevada Friday night, Stanford (11-1, 8-1 Pac-10) will make the jump from sixth in last week’s BCS standings.

Moving up to fourth will guarantee Stanford a BCS bowl game, even though that bowl game isn’t going to be the Rose Bowl.

According to new rules this year, if the champion of the Pac-10 (Oregon) goes to the national title game, then the Rose Bowl must choose the top non automatic qualifying team to replace them. As of now that team would be TCU. However, with Stanford at fourth in the BCS, they would receive an automatic at-large bid to either the Orange Bowl or Sugar Bowl.

Wisconsin, which totally dismantled Northwestern 70-23, will move up to fifth, one spot ahead of Ohio State (11-1, 7-1 Big Ten) and three ahead of Michigan State. That will give Wisconsin (11-1, 7-1) the tie breaker for the Big Ten title and the right to represent the conference in the Rose Bowl.

The rankings should be pretty tough for MSU (11-1, 7-1) fans to swallow, as Sparty gave the Badgers their only loss of the season 34-24 on Oct. 2. MSU lost 37-6 to Iowa (7-5, 4-4) on Oct. 30, and has been punished for it by voters ever since.

Boise City’s (10-1, 6-1) merciful loss to the Wolfpack (11-1, 7-1) on Friday will cost them a shot at a BCS game, but won’t stop their fans from being the most annoying PsOS in the entire universe. This kid cost you a chance at a BCS game. It’s O.K. to hate him for a while. I hate Boise City fans. I hope they burn in a fire. They’re going to be ninth in the new BCS standings. Kaepernick for governor.

Oregon will stay at No. 1, while Auburn–which got an incredible comeback win over Alabama that should seal Cam Newton’s Heisman victory–will stay at No. 2, but will close the gap.

BCSknowhow’s Projected BCS Standings:

  1. Oregon
  2. Auburn
  3. TCU
  4. Stanford
  5. Wisconsin
  6. Ohio State
  7. Arkansas
  8. Michigan State
  9. Boise State
  10. Oklahoma
  11. LSU
  12. Missouri

Bowl Projections:

BCS National Championship Game: Oregon (BCS No. 1) vs. Auburn (BCS No. 2)

Oregon has to beat Oregon State in Corvallis to get its first shot at a national title in the school’s history. Auburn has to win the SEC title game over South Carolina in Atlanta. If Oregon loses, it goes to the Rose Bowl. Not a bad worst-case scenario. This would be a fun, fun, fun, fun game to watch.

Rose Bowl: TCU (At-large) vs. Wisconsin (Big Ten Champion)

With Oregon in the title game, the Rose Bowl must select the top non-AQ team to replace the Pac-10′s representative, which as of now would be TCU and would only change if Oregon loses next week. Obviously the Big Ten is out of the title game picture, so the top team from the conference will be in the Rose Bowl. Wisconsin holds the highest tie breaker (top BCS ranking) in the three way tie with Ohio State and Michigan State, and will be in the game to face either TCU or Oregon.

Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma (Big 12 Champion) vs. Connecticut (Big East Champion)

Oklahoma (10-2, 6-2 Big-12) saved its BCS Big-12 title chances with some huge offensive plays late in its 47-41 win over Oklahoma State. It will now face Nebraska for the Big-12 title. Nebraska might not have Taylor Martinez for that game, giving Oklahoma the clear advantage. If the Sooners win, they go to the Fiesta. Connecticut (7-4, 4-2 Big East) has the easiest road to the Big East title. They must beat South Florida next week and they’re in. The Fiesta will most likely choose Oklahoma as its home team, which will give the Orange Bowl first pick of an opponent for likely ACC champ Virginia Tech, which would be Stanford. That leaves the Big East champ UConn in the Fiesta.

Orange Bowl: Stanford (At-large) vs. Virginia Tech (ACC Champion)

Virginia Tech, despite losing two awful games to start the season, is the clear favorite to win the ACC. As previously mentioned, the Orange Bowl likely will have a choice between the Big East champ or 11-1 Stanford — no-brainer of the century. Taking Stanford will create a pretty fun match-up.

Sugar Bowl: Ohio State (At-large) vs. Arkansas (At-large)

What a difference a week can make. Arkansas beat LSU and is now the favorite to get the SEC’s second BCS bid as an at-large, with the SEC champ Auburn likely in the title game. Ohio State is the clear at-large choice for the Sugar Bowl — a runner-up for no-brainer of the century.

My Top 25:

  1. Oregon
  2. Auburn
  3. TCU
  4. Stanford

Sweet justice for the other bowls who made the Rose Bowl take a non-AQ this year, they get stuck with Stanford. I wonder if the Orange Bowl wouldn’t just trade TCU for Stanford. A Wisky vs Stanford Rose Bowl would be sweet to watch.

And for the first time all season, BCSknowhow was wrong about No. 1.

I’d like to point out that thanks to USC’s silliness, Notre Dame was a mere 9 points away from being an automatic BCS team. Ah well, thanks for trying Lane.
