Suspensions: Masoli entire season, James one game

Coach Chip Kelly read a statement (regarding James, Beard, Masoli) and did not field questions.

QB Masoli suspended for entire season. (though Jeremiah does have a red-shirt available)

RB LaMichael James suspended for one game. (9/4/2010 New Mexico @ Eugene, OR)

PK Rob Beard suspended for one game. (9/4/2010 New Mexico @ Eugene, OR)

Did coach get it right?

Yes. On both players.

Masoli had to be done for the season.  Why?  Because he didn’t just do something idiotic by stealing from a frat house, but he stepped up to galactically stupid by lying to his coach.

LaMichael James from KVAL:

… has offered to plead guilty to one of five counts against him in exchange for having the other four counts dismissed. … sentenced to 10 days jail and 24 months probation in Lane County Circuit Court Friday morning.

James’ lawyer recommended as part of the plea agreement that he serve 24 months probation and 10 days in custody, with credit for the time he already spent in jail. He said James would have no contact with the victim, whom the lawyer identified as James’ “ex-girlfriend.”

James begins his jail time at 4pm today. He serves 8 days, because 2 have already bee served.  But apparently, due to jail overcrowding, James will likely not spend his 8 days locked up.

So how will Coach Kelly translate LaMichael’s legal sentencing into Oregon Ducks football punishment? What does 10 days in jail and 24 months probation equal in football games? If any?

I believe, 10 days jail time should result in at least 1 game, maybe 2. But what if Kelly decides to punish with a heavy hand because of all the attention the football program has received lately. Does coach dole out 3 games? … 6 games? But he surely can’t do zero games, right?
