How ’bout that Jose Reyes!! Dude gets a hit and sits for the rest of game 162 to ensure he’s the NL batting champ of 2011. I’m kinda on the fence about this one. Because on one hand we got teams playing backups at the end of the season (or end of game) like the Yankees (against Tampa) because their season is decided.

Really … what is the difference?

If Jose has the BA lead after 1 at bat in game 162 … what is the big outcry? I know … I know … dude coulda played 4 ABs like a man … but really? Now I’d be pissed if he had the BA lead with 3 games left and he sat the final 3 games. But the last game? Uhhhh … I’ll say he’ll never be mistaken for El Capitan, but he’s also no weasel … he’s somewhere in between … right?

Moneyball kicks ass!

I saw it opening weekend and it was much better than I expected. Very impressed. In fact, it is my favorite movie of 2011 so far. Which obviously makes it a top 7 baseball movie of all time.

Alright, before you go and get all nit-picky, there are a couple minor historical items about the film that may bug you down the road … but that is only if you are a die-hard sports fan … meaning, the avg movie-goer will not be bothered or even notice. But the flip side says all the little details they did secure in the film accurately … you’ll be impressed by. Seriously, sports movies, especially a baseball movie, is gonna be nit-picked down to the most minute item possible. And Moneyball did an awesome job with those details.

If I was living back on the East Coast still I might have driven down (during rain delay) to Baltimore to sneak into Camden Yards to catch the end of that instant classic (for some, granted).

For one night, MLB was the talk of the nation in September during football season.

Anyone notice there is an NBA lockout going on?

Nope, probably not. Please inform me ONLY when the lockout ends … because I was once a die-hard college basketball fan. And if the lockout continues into 2012 … I won’t care much. Because NCAA basketball will be in full swing and getting much deserved love. Even if my favorite Big East conference is not the same as once before.

If you live in the Portland area you should purchase Portland Pilots tickets … at least one or two games … it’s the best hoops ticket in town … trust me.

Granted, Dodgers owner, Frank Jaime McCourt and Mets owner, Fred Wilpon, will be doing just fine in terms of personal finances regardless of their team’s current and future financial issues. However, the two MLB franchises are going though some of the worst financial troubles any major sports organization has ever seen.

Wilpon and the Mets:

In a recent 12-page article in the New Yorker, Wilpon, had a few not so encouraging words regarding his team’s 3 star best players.

Jose Reyes can become a free agent at the end of the season. There’s been speculation the shortstop wants a contract similar to the $142 million, seven-year deal that Carl Crawford signed in the offseason.

“He’s had everything wrong with him,” Wilpon said of the oft-injured speedster. “He won’t get it. He’s a racehorse.” “He thinks he’s going to get Carl Crawford money,” he said.

Beltran is finishing up a $119 million, seven-year contract signed after his monster 2004 postseason for Houston, when he hit eight homers and scored 21 runs in 12 playoff games.

“We had some schmuck in New York who paid him based on that one series,” Wilpon said, referring to himself. “He’s 65 to 70 percent of what he was.”

As for Wright, Wilpon said the third baseman is “a really good kid. A very good player. Not a superstar.”

In a statement released by his agent, Wright said: “Fred is a good man and is obviously going through some difficult times. There is nothing more productive that I can say at this time.”

Jose Reyes isn’t worth all the money he wants. Carlos Beltran is no longer a top-tier player. David Wright isn’t a superstar. I couldn’t agree more with Madoff Ponzi schemed Wilpon. The truth hurts sometimes, especially when it comes from the owner.

The Mets have told bidders for the team that they lost $51 million last season and expect to lose $60 million this year. The 10 percent drop in attendance so far this season could push those losses even higher.

McCourt(s) and the Dodgers:

Found an interesting site, dodgerdivorce.com, that has what seems like 50+ posts in a time line fashion explaining everything from when the Jaime McCourt filed for divorce over 2 years ago. The site this dude put together is pretty impressive in terms of content. If I gave two shits about the Dodge it might be worth spending longer than 10-15 minutes on it.

Long story short:

The organization has been a shit show ever since the divorce and subsequent trial over a year ago. Earlier this year Frank was losing basically everything worth anything to his ex. He still had the team though, kind of, but had no money. He was trying to rush a deal that was already in place with FOX to get some more cash. Before that happened, in stepped Selig and MLB to take control/oversee the circus.

However, the guy Selig appoints to “watch the team” had previous worked for the ex-wife, Jaime. So, he gone!! Insert watch dawg #2. All the while the team is still playing ball, but every month the team barely makes payroll. However, fans are going to games…at least they were until a Giants fan was nearly killed by a Dodger fan typical LA resident. The family of the victim has now said they are going to sue the Dodgers organization, as they should.

I don’t have a problem with Wilpon’s negative in nature comments about players he has signed. He just seems like your everyday disgruntled and senile old guy who has been screwed over in some manner, but still has a ton of money.

The McCourts on the other hand are simply douches. The guy made fortunes off of parking lots in Boston, f’n parking lots! Good for him. He now has 500 mil in debt.

Jamie McCourt reports she and her husband jointly pocketed $108 million from 2004 though 2009 and paid no federal or state income tax. Among Jamie McCourt’s listed $988,845 in monthly expenses were $538,029 for 10 different residences; $33,756 for support of their adult sons; and $55,782 for personal expenses that included a hair stylist, hair coloring, facials, appointments with a skin doctor, manicures, pedicures, a make-up artist and designer clothing. A 2011 Forbes valuation showed the Dodgers earning a $32.8 million operating profit last season, yet their payroll was only $3 million higher than that of an Astros franchise that is in paring-the-costs mode.

Fortune- According to the source, Mets financial statements disclose another $100 million in what the team calls “contingent liabilities.” Much of that is deferred compensation still due to players long gone from the Mets roster. The documents give two examples of these liabilities: Bobby Bonilla, who left the team in 1996 and has $1.2 million per year coming to him for the next 25 years, and Bret Saberhagen, who left in 1995 and is owed $250,000 annually through 2029.

Investors were not shown a full list of the contingent liabilities; they were only informed that the figure is $100 million, and that these two particular commitments are examples.

The source adds another $70 million to the team’s overall liabilities to cover this year’s losses. The Mets lost $50 million in 2010 and are projected to lose $60 million this season. But they’ve already seen an 11% decline in attendance this year, which makes it likely that the team will lose closer to $70 million. Part of the franchise’s annual obligations is an annual $50 million municipal bond payment for financing Citi Field — these payments come from Queens Ballpark Company, a “wholly owned subsidiary of the New York Mets,” according to the Sterling Equities website.

Combine the $430 million bank debt with the contingent liabilities and expected losses this season, and finally, add the $25 million owed back to the MLB from a loan made to the team in November, and a new owner would own part of a team that’s roughly $625 million in the hole.

God I fucking love the Mets. There is no other team in sports that is as big a shitshow as the Mets organization. They will overpay for any over the hill player that has had one good season in the last decade and on top of it they come up with the best contracts in sports.

I already knew about the awesome deal that Bobby Bo had which was paying him $30 million over a 25 year span, but now I find out that old Brett Saberhagen has also swindled the Mets for one of these contracts. The Mets will now have almost 1.5 million invested in 2 players till 2021 that haven’t played since 1996 and 1994. How do you not love that? Those contracts might have been worth it if we were playing RBI baseball, but I still could have beat the Mets with the California Angels.

Let’s add in K-Rod ($12 mil), Jason Bay ($18 mil) and Carlos Beltran ($19 mil) and you can see why the Mets franchise is $625 million in the red. I really do feel sorry for anyone that is a Mets fan. It has to be hard to root for a team that has the most incompetent people in the front office.

Memo to Bud Selig. If you are looking for teams to retract you need to start with the Mets and go from there.

Emotional Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez was arrested after last night’s game for assaulting his father-in-law, police said. Rodriguez and his wife’s father brawled in a tunnel just outside the Mets clubhouse in the moments following the team’s 6-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies. The father-in-law suffered facial abrasions and a head injury and was taken by ambulance to Flushing Hospital shortly after the altercation, police said. K-Rod, as the Venezuela-born star closer is known, was charged with third-degree assault, police said.

Moments before the explosion with his family, Rodriguez snapped at reporters who asked why he was not summoned to pitch in a bases loaded situation in the eighth inning. “Did I f—–g pitch tonight?” Rodriguez snarled when asked if he was upset that manager Jerry Manuel did not ask him to protect a one-run lead. “Why do I have to talk to you f—–g guys?” “Mind your own f—–g business,” Rodriguez snapped at a reporter who witnessed the fight and asked for an explanation.

Easy there K-Rod let’s bring this down a notch or two. I know the Mets are dog shit and all, but that is no reason to go around beating the shit out of your father-in-law. So you guys lost another game to a terrible Rockies team big deal, if losing games makes people want to beat ass then I’m pretty sure there would be a murder everyday the Royals, O’s, Pirates and Mariners play a game. Let’s remember it’s all a game and if you still have the feeling to beat someones ass after a loss it’s would be better to go after the front office people since they’re the ones to get you into this mess.

To make matters worse for the Mets some broad is saying that starting pitcher Johan Santana raped her. If we can get a guy busted for doing crack this would look like the 1986 Mets team, minus the winning.

Show some love for Ron-Ron!

The hideous thing known as Gaga, is still welcome at Yankee Stadium,  just not in the clubhouse. Cano claims he’s the only player to have “seen” her, but I find it hard to believe Arod and/or Swisher where not involved in some way, shape, or form. I also wouldn’t doubt if Milky was hanging out in there(Gaga) too. This also officially ends the debate of MLB’s best second baseman. Cano’s only knock was his lack of quotes and no entertaining off-field antics, not so anymore. In all seriousness, I think Cano and others were just covering for Arod, who was the real reason she it was in the clubhouse. Gag Me was also at a Mets game last week, and for a change she was doing the fingering, flipping the bird at Mets fans, who could blame her though.

On Friday, Lady Gaga showed up at Yankee Stadium wearing a half-unbuttoned Yankees Jersey exposing her black bra, fishnet stockings and a bikini bottom while she chugged Jameson Irish Whiskey. If that wasn’t terrifying enough, she kept grabbing at her tits.

Eventually, she talked her way past stadium security to the exclusive clubhouse where she met A-Rod, Robinson Cano and four others. Gaga tried to tell them how much she loved them but all that came out was a bunch of slurred words like, “allliiice rogez me looooves beeer you.” Later, the Post reported that Hal Steinbrenner had permanently banned Gaga from the clubhouse.

However, Yankee General Manager Brian Cashman denied these reports and said Lady Gaga did nothing wrong. He blamed the employees who let her in. He added that celebrities are allowed to mingle with players on occasion in an area adjacent to the locker room but only after a win. Definitely not after a loss.

Alex Rodriguez and the five other Yankee players who met Gaga that day couldn’t be reached for comment because they were still washing their eyes with bleach.

“She can sing, I’ll tell you that,” Cano said.

Who knows where that has been.

This weekend the Mets and Phillies will be sluggin it out for control of the NL East pennant.  Unfortunately, for me & my mooph, the stinkin Metropolitans jumped all over Kyle Kendrick Friday night (9-1 NYM) and have taken a 1.5 game lead over my brotherly-love heroes.

Oh wait, the salt in the wound now comes from the Nats beating the Marlins, so that means the Phils have dropped to 3rd!  WTF!?!  I did not envision the Fightins beginning May in the 3 spot … this is a nauseating thought.   I might need to leave a bucket, bedside, for the rest of the weekend.

Halladay gets the ball Saturday, what a relief, but no cake walk with surprising Pelfrey (4-0, .69 ERA) for the Mets as the Roy opponent.

Ugh.  But then it’s Moyer (5.25 ERA) vs Santana (2.08 ERA) on Sunday, warm up the Phillie bullpen now!

The world is a little upside down right now.  In their last 11 games– the Mets are 10-1 and the Nats are 7-4.  Huh?!  The Phils are strugglin at 4-7 in their last 11.

At least Lidge is back in the bullpen, giving some hope that the arms won’t be as spread out in the late innings.  Madson is no closer and his 7 ERA shows he’s having a rocky spring so far.

Now that Ryan Howard is signed up long-term (which I’m not sure to be happy or concerned about) maybe Ruben Amaro can begin tinkering with some scenarios on how to get an extra RP arm for the dog days.

Philly needs to wipe the diamond with the Mets Saturday & Sunday to get this big gooey cheez-steak dripping back in the right direction.

Hey, New York Mets fans, think things couldn’t get any worse? Next year former outfielder Bobby Bonilla goes back on the payroll at the ripe old age of 48.

In 1999, Bonilla returned to the Mets for a second stint at Shea following his borderline disastrous free-agent signing in 1992. Bonilla wasn’t any better the second time around, so the Mets waived him in 2000. The problem was that the team still owed Bonilla $5.9 million in guaranteed salary.

Bonilla’s agents worked out a deal with the Mets where he would defer the salary if the team would pay him $1,193,248.20 every July 1 from 2011 to 2035. Not a bad deal for someone who was so bad the team basically paid him to go away.

Gotta love the Mets front office now and then, just making great moves everywhere you look. Not only did Bobby B go from 5.9 million to 29 mil, but they have to add that onto their payroll. If they have to have him on their payroll they might as well put him back on the roster. Have you looked at the Mets lineup. Tell me Bonilla couldn’t be hitting cleanup for the Mets right now. I see him dropping 20 bombs this year, which is more than anyone on the Mets will. So keep thinking that you are relevant Mets fans, but when these kind of deals are made by your front office you have to know you have no chance of winning.

On a side note I need to find out who his agent was, because if he can swindle this kind of a deal out of the Mets I need him when we make it huge and it’s contract time.
