Felix took the mound and the Mariners won.  However the Mariners showed their hate for Felix by waiting until he left the game before actually scoring any runs.  Only in Seattle is 7 shutout inning never going to get you a W.  The team should pay him whatever his bonus is supposed to be for winning a CY Young.

Aroldis Chapman (the Cuban Missile?)

The flame-thrower originally from Cuba, now a Red, and more importantly — the latest buzz around baseball.  Reports last week had Chapman hitting 105 MPH on the radar gun while pitching with Triple-A Louisville Bats of the International League.  That’s is just sick!  Oh, did I mention he is a lefty?!  The kid tosses triple digits from the left side of the mound, soooooo take-a-seat left-handed hitters.

On Tuesday, Chapman went 1-2-3 with eight filthy pitches, getting his first career strikeout in his MLB debut versus the Brewers .

No doubt Aroldis will instantly electrify any ballpark once he strolls out of the pen.  But this weekend could hold something much, much more. The Reds travel southwest to St. Louis for a crucial series that the Cards really need to win.  And Triple Crown threat and super slugger Albert Pujols awaits at Busch Stadium.

I’ll be lurking around MLB Channel this weekend (in between football games of course!), to try and catch Chapman pitching in the late innings against Albert “the machine” Pujols.  This is what baseball is all about.  The flame-throwing prospect vs the hardball-launching slugger.  This matchup might have been better timed a week earlier so it does not have to run up against NCAA football opening weekend.  Oh well!  Sometimes you make due with what you get served.

Keep your eye on this series if you wanna see this match-up live.  It could be Hobbs vs the Whammer!

Let’s hope Aroldis doesn’t hook up with the wrong female type, so we can enjoy his game for a long time.

Mariners won a close one against the Twins, that’s a tough win to swallow.  Next up is 3 against the equally disappointing Angels and then 4 against the equally as bad Indians.  If the Mariners aren’t careful they could blow their chances at 100 losses.

Let’s go to the numbers to find out who is where at this point:


Miggie Cabrera is still the man in the AL.  But with Jose Bautista not slowing down, each week that goes by where Miggie doesn’t hit multiple HRs makes it seem less likely for him to catch Bautista.  There is that Josh Hamilton problem as well.  Hamilton is up by over 10 percentage points over Miggie and isn’t slowing down either.

Josh Hamilton could rocket himself up the RBI & HR standings with one ridiculous 2 week stretch of bombs.  Likely, no.  But silly?  Nope.


Can you believe the NL actually has a 3-horse race for the crown?!?!

Pujols, Votto, and Cargo (sneaky) … all battling for the prize.  Pujols is the lead horse (RBI, HR) and is well within striking distance for AVG.  If Pujols can grab the crown, he would solidify his place as the best slugger of his time.  Period.  Go get it, Albert.

With this race as close as it is, when will ESPN tap into NL Triple Crown AB live look-ins?  How awesome would the last 2 weeks of the season be if these three sluggers are still battlin for the crown.  Having the MLB Channel (which rocks this time of year) is gonna be a real treat in September with pennant/WC races going on and a legit TC race.
