My guess is that OSU dipped into their massive endowment or state funds (because well, the athletic department is flat out broke) and dropped literally tens of dollars into this package to showcase Beaver athletics in the hopes that they can fill Gill Mausoleum to at least 50% capacity this year. probably shopped it to some focus groups full of homosexual rams, cows and nutrias (their general fanbase) and when it got panned by even them, tried to play it off as some ‘student video’ and let McShane take the fall. Classic Robama.

Celebrating their monumental win over #20 Arizona in the first game of the Pac-10 season spawned that gem. Because you know, beaten’ #20, that’s stuntin’!

It’s been said before, but OSU should just leave the slickly produced vids to Oregon. Shoot, we even make something called acrobatics and tynbling look good.

Just another shining example of the differences between Mighty Oregon and the little bro from Cowvallis. While Altman’s Antagonists are practicing ball-screens, back-cuts, power lay ins, the full court press and cheap shots. Robama and OSU are hitting up Pizza Pipeline, having slumber parties and rubbing each others nipples. Omari, Joe and Roberto should be more actively engaged on trying to beat the Ducks, not group foreplay. If I were a beaver fan, I would be irate and waiting on a scathing expose from Canzano, Buker and Bachman in regards to the free-wheeling Beaver basketball program.

TIIIICKLE FIIIIIGHT

Surprisingly I’m not picking against the Ducks here, even though I do like UCLA -9. No this lock goes against the other Oregon school the Beavers.

USC hosts the Beavs tonight and giving up 11.5 points. Now that seems like a lot of points for a very marginal SC team to be giving up, but the Beavers are that bad on the road. This year the Beavs are 1-7 on the road with loses to Seattle, Colorado and Montana, that 1 win was against Howard so it was nothing special. Also of those 7 road losses only 2 were by less than 10 points (Seattle was 3, Montana was 5).

USC is not very good, but at home they have played some pretty good games. They beat Texas at home by 16, beat UCLA by 11 and beat WAZZU by 4. I really hate picking teams that are so inconsistent like SC, but the numbers don’t lie and 11.5 points seems way to low to be giving the Beavers.

If you need anymore reasons to pick SC here you go.

The Oregon Ducks went into Gill Coliseum and punked the Oregon State Beavers 63-59 yesterday, not that Beaver fans care.  I don’t understand why Beaver fans are so apathetic to their sports teams.  The football team struggles to sell out Reser, the basketball team struggles to fill seats and Phil Knight had to chip in just to keep Pat Casey from leaving after winning back-to-back national championships in baseball.  Yes having Phil Knight and other lucrative boosters is a big advantage, but the biggest advantage Oregon has is the massive backing it gets from it’s general fans.

Let’s take a look at the two basketball programs.  Oregon doesn’t have a single player that is worth the price of admission. Catron has been solid, but he’s nothing special. Singler is good, but has yet to develop as a consistent starter. Armstead is a disaster. Teondre can have a spectacular highlight here and there, but is buried on the bench. The team is severely undersized and is staring at another 9th or 10th place finish this year.

As for the Beavers, why don’t they support this up and coming team?  The Beavers have a legitimate stud in sophomore Jared Cunningham.  Cunningham has plenty of support with freshman stud Devon Collier and big men Omari Johnson and Joe Burton.  They also have a good coach that is in high demand.  Coach Robinson could (should) have left by now.  Instead he has shown loyalty to the Beavers.  When are the fans going to return the favor?  The announced attendance of 9,800 for the civil war is 800 under capacity.  And anyone who watched the game on TV saw there were plenty of empty seats in the front rows.  No chance they actually had 9,800 show up to the game.  Against USC? 7,250 which is only 2/3 full.  6,800 for the UCLA game; 5,200 for the Arizona game and a whopping 4,600 for the ASU game.

To break it down for you the Beavers, how have a much better team, average 5,041 per game (48% capacity), the Ducks average 7,300 (76% capacity).  And if you eliminate the “Matt” factor, Oregon still has them beat by 1,500 a game with an average of 6,500 (72% capacity) at Mac court.  In the non league season is where Beaver fans truly embarrass themselves with an average of 3,800 per game (36% of capacity), Oregon averaged 6,500 (72% capacity).  In fact the Beavers only filled Gill to half capacity once in 7 games and had a laughable 2,600 show up to their home opener.

So let’s do some math Beaver fans, had you averaged 1,500 more per game to match the Ducks attendance at Mac, that would come to 18,000 more tickets sold.  At an average ticket cost of $20 that comes to $360,000 dollars in revenue.  Add another $10 in programs/snacks you are looking at $500,000 at least in lost revenue due to an apathetic fan base.  And this is just for the first half of the basketball season.  And let me remind you once more that the Beavers have a nice up and coming team while the Ducks have a pile of garbage.

So Beaver nation, instead of crying about Oregon having Uncle Phil (who pays Pat Casey’s salary by the way), you need to look in the mirror and ask why you don’t support your teams.  Your alumni base is full of doctors and engineers, but yet your athletic department is bleeding money and your stadiums and arenas are half full.  Oregon succeeds due to the strength of their entire fan base, not just because of one rich Uncle.

Will Bob De Carolis ever get the athletes donkeys under control up at Lunch Pale U? Doubtful. Clownzano must be too busy licking his own sphincter to write on the the circus that has set up shop in Corvallis. For those who are counting, Ms. Reinking is 8th Beaver to have been charged with an alcohol related incident in recent weeks, the other 7 were either current or former football players. Last week, women’s basketball assistant Krista Reinking was cited for DUII and other offenses. Shambles doesn’t begin to describe the state of the women’s program. Seven players from the 2009-10 roster have left, including five this spring, along with an assistant coach. OOOOOOO SSSSSSSSSS UUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Beavers will now be keeping their basketball coach on campus possibly into 2015-2016 season.

Coach Craig Robinson is reported to have gotten an extension for his work.

Craig Robinson:

“I’d like to thank President Ed Ray and Bob De Carolis for their commitment to me, our program and Oregon State,”

“This extension represents a mutual commitment to the future of Oregon State men’s basketball. We will continue to recruit the best student-athletes, invest in our facilities and build a successful team on and off the court. We have ambitious goals and look forward to returning the Oregon State basketball program to prominence.”

His 31 wins since taking the Oregon State job in 2008 are the most for the Beavers over two years since the 1989-91 seasons (associated press).

OSU Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis:

“Craig Robinson has done an outstanding job of instilling a work ethic within the program that has allowed our student-athletes to improve on and off the court,”

“He has shown a keen understanding of how to build a program the right way and has already made significant strides in restoring the proud tradition of Oregon State men’s basketball. Meanwhile, down in Eugene … there is only the sound of crickets.

The most disappointing part of Oregon State’s 62 – 42 win and first season sweep of the Ducks in 17 years is we saw this exact same game 4 weeks ago.  Oregon State controlled the game playing the same high school defense that schooled the Ducks at Mac Court after Oregon was coming off of a weekend sweep of the Washington schools.  The only adjustment the Ducks made was to bring an additional player into the back court so it was easier to pass the ball around the perimeter.  The problem with this adjustment is that is exactly what the that kind of defense wants you to do, lag the ball around the perimeter and jack up a  3-pointer.  Now if you are a team that can shoot 3s this is great news, unfortunately for Oregon fans the Ducks are a horrible outside shooting team, but yet continue to jack up 3s even-though they have the best big man in the Pac-10.  And to make matters worse the Beavers were on fire today.  It all adds up to an ass whooping for the Ducks and another notch closer to Kent not returning.  I still think an NIT invite guarantee’s him another year, and an NIT invite is not out of reach.  Who am I kidding, there is no chance Bellotti will fire Kent, that order will have to come from Phil himself.  And right now Phil is giddy with Oregon athletics because the track program is one of, if not the second best in the nation (Texas A&M still gets the top spot as of now).  And the football team sports a new Nike uniform every game.

And in the ‘What the Fuck are You Thinking’ department, Garret Sim’s awful 3-point attempt on a 2-1 break was worthy of a season long benching.  Mix in a math class why don’t you Garret.  13% of 3 (which is what you are shooting in the pac-10) is not as good as 90% of 2 (which is the minimum you should expect to convert on a 2-1).  A point guard that can’t run a 2-1 break, Aye Ca rumba.  What exactly is Sim doing on the team?  Kamyron Brown got ran for this guy?  At least Kent had the sense to tell Sim to Take A Seat.  It bears repeating, Take A Season Long Seat Sim.
