Oregon basketball makes me LOL

Hey guys did you hear the news? Mike Anderson has spurned the Ducks quest in at last filling their vacant head coaching position.
That puts the body count to what, almost 10?
Probably shouldn’t be that big of a surprise. I mean, this is a school where Ernie Kent is the most accomplished coach in it’s history…
There is a difference between ‘testing the waters’ with coaches that are out of reach, and just being delusional. Kilkenny and Oregon are delusional. Even Elwood P. Dowd had a better shot at having others seeing Harvey, than Oregon has had at signing any of their targets.
At this point Oregon should just hire whoever wants the job. Whether it is P.J. Carliesimo, Terry Porter or Randy Bennett, just hire him. The hire will be underwhelming, but hey, at least it’s a hire!
No matter who they hire at this point, let’s be honest, the next two years are going be equally as awful as the last two. There are no more ‘slam dunk’ hires out here, so let’s just concede and go for a power lay up.
Matthew Knight Arena is going to be nice, real nice. But it is too big at 12,000+, and it will be interesting to see how long the novelty of a new arena keeps is fairly full. The product on the court is going to be awful, and Eugene is not a real basketball crazed town, so how long until the arena becomes the giant white elephant in the room?
The better question is, how long until Oregon basketball becomes the white elephant…
At this moment there is no more sugar coating this–no one wants the Oregon job. I don’t blame them, and nor should you. But that shouldn’t stop even the most ardent of Duck fans from snickering a little bit at the failures of the search committee.
Because at this point, if you’re not laughing, you are crying.

Maybe the old lady will double as the interim hoops coach too.

Nice article. I am in complete agreement, this is a joke. The Oregon administration has now taken on the personality of Oregon fans, delusional thinking about how prestigious its sports are. I honestly would not be shocked if Oregon re-hired Ernie Kent with a huge pay raise and an “I’M SORRY” on the front page of the GUARD. I never thought Oregon should build a new stadium, because frankly, they have never been good enough to warrant it. Mac is an old stadium, sure, however, if they would have made some upgrades, it could have done the job. Now, Oregon has a less than average hoops team with no coach and a Giant stadium to fill. The ducks should hire Bobby Knight. Not only would the Academic quality stay the same or get better than it was under Kent (the one thing he did well) it would give UO instant notoriety, sports center each night and the players could actually learn how to play basketball! They could hire a successor as an assistant and after 4 or 5 years Knight can go out on his terms (75 years old) and the Ducks would have stability at head coach for the next ten seasons.

Hiring Randy Bennett would be a steal.

i’m going out on a limb here- but the ducks should hire Eddie… i mean look what she did with the Knicks, and that was when players like John Salley and Mark Jackson were in the twilight of their career. And she turned ballhog Stacey Patton into an unselfish all-star. I think she could really turn the Ducks program around.

It’s almost as if turning the job down is the in vogue thing to do now. Shooting for the moon was fine, but they shouldn’t have made it such a public ordeal. Now who ever takes the job will look like they are sloppy

The only way I would ever come to Oregon would be to choke Ernie Kent, and then I would leave shortly thereafter.

Bobby, if you have enough talent, you can choke whoever you want at Oregon.
