Reaction to Fred Jones Wanting Back in at Oregon

Fred Jones appeared on John Canzano’s radio show, The Bald Faced Truth, on Thursday to talk about getting back involved in the Oregon Ducks basketball program. Here are a couple of quick hitters from Fred:
“Oregon is my life. I would love to be a part of the program.”
“I’m a Duck. Everywhere I go I’m a Duck. I’m always going to be whether they’re winning or losing.”
“At one point, I want that job.”
I for one, welcome this news. Anytime one of your all-time greats wants to be part of the program that is a good thing. Mix that with his NBA experience and I could see this working out one day. There is only one problem, when asked about the Ducks program a few weeks ago Fred all but said Kent needed to go:
“I’m not sure I feel that way,” in response to Cal Coach Mike Montgomery’s statement that he liked Oregon’s talent and it just needed more time to develop.
Fred then went on to blast the players themselves:
“Of course, this year in the Pac-10, the talent level all-around is down. I don’t think Oregon is too far away from where they (should be) standing in the conference, according to their talent level.”
Fred obviously has a lot to learn about etiquette in the coaching ranks. I don’t care what differences he had with Ernie Kent you don’t call for another coach to be fired, period. And to then come out a couple days after it happens and say you’d like to have the job one day is flat out punk.
Hopefully Jones can latch on to a good mentor in the coaching ranks and teach him the ways. It would be great to have another alumni roaming the sidelines one day, but it looks like that day is a long way off.

I definitely would like to have Fred Jones back at Oregon someday. It’d be cool, and you can bet that it would put some more butts in the seats.

I’m hoping to see Bryan Bracey roam the sidelines some day!
