Oregon is wasting everyone’s time

Posted on 29. Mar, 2010 at 1:53 am by in NCAA Basketball, Oregon Ducks Basketball

Seriously Oregon, get a clue.

You’re Oregon. Oregon is a historically awful basketball program.

Tom Izzo is Tom Izzo. Tom Izzo runs a tradition rich program in his home state and is about to play in his sixth (yeah, SIXTH) Final Four this week, hoping to get his second National Title.

Sorry Oregon, not even 5 million dollars a year and a stake in Nike, is bringing a guy like Tom Izzo out to damp, dreary and delusional, Eugene.

The fact that this is even being floated out there as a possibility, is patently absurd. What’s next, having a first year head football coach offer the offensive coordinator position to a Super Bowl winning head coach? Oh wait, that actually happened?

Shooting for the moon is cool, but it won’t ultimately be successful if you’re using a Super Soaker.

And Oregon isn’t even a Super Soaker in the the college basketball world. The Ducks are more like the squirt gun you buy at the Dollar Store.

Tom Izzo doesn’t play with water pistols.

Can we get some grown ups in the room to tell the children running this coach search to put the toys away?

This Izzo talk is a bigger waste of time than trying to explain to Snookie the concepts of addition and subtraction, or the 48 seconds you just spent  reading this.

*UPDATE, UPDATE: KEZI is reporting that Oregon will be offering Phil Jackson a 5 year 250 million dollar contract to coach the Ducks*

+1 El Rey – you do such a good job of hating on the ducks that commenters think you are from Michigan.

Where’s the “he’s going to bolt for Eugene immediately after his team gets waxed by Butler” button on the poll?

This article, should start and end with, “We Hope and Pray”!! Funny that people think Izzo or anyone else would “NOT” be interested in the Oregon job. With Oregon, it’s not where they’ve been, it’s where they’re going that matters! This is why the A&M guy got a “New Contract”, and others too. Folks in college Bball know that Oregon is a serious threat!

So, keep “Hoping and Wishing”. It won’t keep your coach there when Oregon comes calling!

The Ducks may want to get an AD that worth his/her weight in salt before chasing pipe dreams with Izzo…. Izzo wouldn’t leave Michigan State for all of the hippie lettuce in Eugene.

Nike U. listened to uncle Phill, “IF WE BUILD IT THEY WILL COME” HMMM! no one seems to being racing up to Nike U.., fact is the big time coachs (that phill thought woul come) DONT CARE ABOUT A NEW 227 mill, WHITE ELAPHANT, DOESNT CARE THAT HE IS OFFERING BIG BUCKS! What they see is a no A.D. an athletic dept out of control, and a claim nfrom that dept that it was in the red 600k last year1Good luck Nike U. Uncle Phills money put you in the spot light and now will destroy you!!!

Izzo wouldn’t have to hire you to shovel snow off his driveway anymore if he moved to Eugene.

    Clown: Yes it does.

But it’s easier to win in hell than Eugene.

Just returned from several days in hippieville (eugene). Wet, dreary, cloudy, dark, cold, wintry, depressing, did i say wet??? Besides, girls are fat and uggggggggllllllyyyyyy in this liberal stentch of a university town. Everyone wears black and brown and dreary green. And did i say fat and ugly women?????

    Been to Eugene…

    The Girls are F’uggly!

BTW, Izzo wouldn’t go to the NBA or Kentucky… He would not even consider it. His kids have been raised in E.L. from birth. He won’t move Rocky and Steve.

One thing IS for sure: you will NEVER get a big time coach if you don’t try. Oregon went out and got George Horton to build its reincarnated baseball program, Vin Lanana to rebuild the track program, Paul Westhead to rebuild the women’s basketball program. We wanted to get great coaches, and we did, looks like the strategy is working, why then should we not try to get the best? Oregon once again is reiterating its desire to be a competitor across the board in ALL sports, whether the tradition is there or not. If you don’t try to shoot for the moon you can never actually accomplish it.

Hahaha… I love the girls are fugly comment. I’ve been to East Lansing a couple of times and I can tell you the chicks are WAY hotter in Eugene. They do hibernate in the winter (beauty sleep), so if you were just here you missed them. Come back in the spring and be prepared to have your world rocked. Have you see the Duck cheerleaders?

As for going after Izzo, it is a tremendous reach no doubt, and I think they are wasting their time with him, but the notion that Oregon won’t land a high profile coach proves you aren’t paying attention. I drive by the new arena every day and it is incredible. It will easily be one of the top 2 or 3 facilities in the country. Mix in large $$ from Uncle Phil and benefactor Pat, a direct connection to Nike, and a nice cupboard full of talent (EK could recruit like a m-fer, he just couldn’t coach), and I bet people will be surprised to see who gets lured here. I am positive it won’t be Izzo, but this job is not even close to as bad as you want to believe it is.

    Sean-

I agree the program should try for the best when looking for a new coach. However, at some point one needs to look at it realistically. Track, women’s basketball, and baseball are all on a lower level with different variables then those of the men’s basketball program. Could we argue that they(Oregon) went out and got the best competitive stunt/cheer coach too?

I’m with these last few comments, I think they’re getting a big name in here. For a lot of coaches the challenge of getting UO noticed nationally is a huge draw. That, the big pay day, the Pac 10 sucking ass right now, and the new arena all make it not only appealing but very much a possibility. It shouldn’t be hard to get big recruits to come here and play for a big name coach and an even bigger swoosh.

Wow, now things are getting solid!!! I dig how the conversation about sports always turns to how fuckin’ ugly or slutty the ladies from that town are…. Ahhh I love that shit, glad my town is filled with some serious hotties!

LMFAO, this is hilarious. I am a native Eugenian and I actually like the style of this writer, too funny. But, Eugene is a great college town and Oregon is one of the five best states in the country. Michigan…really!!! Michigan is s#4thole. Oh Michiganders, bless your hearts. Delusions of grandeur actually come from Wolverine fans. Most importantly, Us Ducks don’t want Izzo’s dumb ass here anyway. Stay with the Spartans Izzo you are not a good fit out here. Dude, did Snoop Dogg give you your last name??? The only Italian the Ducks love is Bellotti!

Why is it that whenever someone gets defensive in regards to Michigan, they rip on the state and it’s economic problems. Michigan is full of good hard working people who would have your back even when you talk sh@# about them.

  24. Common Sense

I heard Oregon was looking at this one up and coming coach….Ernie Kent. I heard they were going to offer him a lifetime contract worth 6 mill a year. Any truth to this?

I love how coastal types (which we presumably have in this thread) go on and on about how dreary Oregon weather is. Sure, the coast (banana belt) is another world, but how do you think Eugene compares to Saginaw, MI in the winter? Quite similar, actually, ‘cept that Saginaw is *cold*, too.

It’s fans like this that could drive Izzo out of town:

    SpartanLove411 (awesome name) on espn:

“This isn’t about whether you think Oregon is better than Michigan. It’s about whether Izzo is going to leave State. Which if you knew anything about Tom Izzo or his legacy at MSU you would know that that is never going to happen. He loves it at State and State certainly loves him.”

    I’d run for the hills.
