Duke vs North Carolina
Posted on 10. Feb, 2010 at 1:29 pm by Meerkat in ACC Basketball, Basketball, NCAA Basketball
| when | 6pm PST | where | Dean Dome (UNC) | |
| what | NCAA Basketball (ACC) | channel | ESPN | |
| key players | Jon Scheyer (Blue Devil) Deon Thompson (Tarheel) |
chalk | Duke -5 1/2 | |
| why | This rivalry is the NCAA hoops equivalent to Sawx/Yanks. Almost every winter I circle Duke/Carolina on the calendar, twice. But seeing that the Tarheels just ain’t what they used to be, I will most likely miss the rematch in March. This game is life or tournament death for Carolina. A loss at home against a ranked team should seal their big dance fate barring an ACC tournament championship win. The only drawback to this annual thriller is the fact that Vitale almost always calls it … which means the mute button will be used in force at times. | |||

Maybe Carolina will be the team to knock the Beavers off of their “CBI Throne” here in a month or so.

Dickie V is the man! The guy is an exciting personality that has been monumentally influential in college basketball for almost 30 years. The man is one of the few loyal, honest, and ethical sports figures still around. His work with the V-Foundation is LEGENDARY. You are a complete nut for not feeling privileged to hear the guy call a game. He loves his job, he bring an unmatched level of enthusiasm to the game, and is 20 times better than listening to any northwest tool announce a game. I feel asleep every 5 minutes watching & listening the Civil War with Donny last weekend……

I enjoyed Dickie V back in my early 20s when I began to follow NCAA hoops with a passion. But I also enjoyed drinking cheap flavorless beer at that time as well. Point being … you grow out of some things.
Vitale is a good ambassador for the game, that is certainly true. And yes his enthusiasm is unmatched. But for me, I need a little more than the usual … “he’s a PTP’r baby!” … or “it’s dunk city USA baby!”. Also there is the constant ass-kissing of all the big coaches. Nobody puckers up better than Dickie V. When you have watched as many hours of ESPN NCAA basketball as I have … it’s was only natural that the Vitale act would eventually wear me down.
I kneel at the alter of Jay Bilas. Catch the weekly Big Monday Big East game in which Jay works the 3-man-weave with Sean McDonough (play-by-play) and Bill Raftery (analyst) and you’ll experience awesome basketball broadcasting.

Jay Bilas is a smart dude and a good sports center guy. Not a fan of him calling a game though. That should be left to people with a personality. Don’t get me wrong, he’s FAR from the wost guys on tv (Scott Hastings here in Denver takes the cake).
And don’t try to play the “cheap flavorless beer” line man. Slamming PBR in the Mile High Stadium parking lot before a Broncos game ROCKS regardless of how much you have “grown out of it”. You’re the guy who shows up with Blue Moon 6-packs to tailgate and gets laughed at all day!

Drinking PBR in the parking lot of Invesco is clearly the highlight of Broncos games, I’ll agree with Mick on that one.
Here’s to the Chiefs dropping 44at Invesco in the season finale, touchdown KANSAS CITY!!!

Don’t forget the Old Crow whiskey too man….
For the team we had last year, I’ll take 8 wins. Broncos should take Tebow and let McDaniels groom him for 2 years. He can’t be any worse than Chris Sims! That guy was missing receivers by 8 feet when he played last year. LOL!
I do dig the fire you spit as well King. Gonna be some EPIC war of words once baseball starts. You’re not a Yankee guy are you?

Mick, I am in no way a Yankee guy. Yuck.

When it comes to slamming beers at football game tailgates … for me it’s Yuengling Lager cans that are ice cold from bottom of the cooler.
I’m from the Philly area … and Yuengling beer flows like a river on Saturday and Sunday mornings in the Fall.
Now I live in Portland, 5 blocks from Rogue Ales. Does it get better than that?

My bad King… Couldn’t remember which one of Donny’s homies is a Yankee fan. Guess you’re not as cool as I thought…
