NBA playoffs: now, the lesser of evils for me

NBA playoffs: now, the lesser of evils for me

Going back to my pre-playoffs post 2010 NBA Playoffs: Who do I back? … shows I’m out of teams I really enjoy pulling for this spring.

The Blazers gave a nice effort but Brandon Roy’s inability to drive to the hoop left the team with few reliable offensive options … especially with Rudy playing the invisible man during the series.  Portland out.

The Kevin Durant led Thunder-Dogs made quite an impression on me and, most likely, everyone else watching these playoffs.  But OKC’s inexperience and untimely turnovers were their undoing.  Oklahoma City out.

That left those super-cool Spurs.  They turned back the favored Mavs in round 1.  Which I’m sure had NBA Czar David Stern making it rain at Scores strip-club in Manhattan soon after double zeros was the reality for Mark Cuban.  But in round 2, San Antonio just didn’t have the legs to hang with the Los Suns.  Too bad, the Timmy and Pops show looks to be ending very soon.  San Antonio out.

So now it’s time to look down my list to the lesser of evils.

I gotta now jump into the fox hole with Orlando and Phoenix.  Yup.  Not the dream matchup that dictator Stern dreams of when he’s alone in his leather office chair with a bottle of Jergens.  I want the Dwight Howard slash Steve Nash finals throw-down that will be a ratings disaster, but a much easier matchup for my stomach to handle.  Meaning, if  I gotta deal with Lakers slash Cavs, I am gonna need a bucket next to the couch.  Seriously, all the penis-jerking the media will do over LeBron v Kobe will be nauseating to nuclear levels.

Alright, so does anyone have a spare Los Suns jersey?  Maybe an extra Howard Superman cape?  Ain’t no way the rickety Celtics will upend the Cavs, so a Orlando slash Cleveland matchup is inevitable.  If Dwight can stay outta foul trouble (some of it NBA-favored officials induced)  Orlando can advance to the finals again.  I don’t think Phoenix will be able to take down Los Angeles, but they will give them a run … I hope.

Magic vs Suns … please!

Real Men

While spittin out this blog text I’m multi-tasking some movie watching as well.  A classic for me and my bro, but most likely, an unknown to many.  Real Men is a timeless comedy that surprises me each time I stumble upon it while running thru the TV channel jungle.  This film doesn’t go for the big laugh out loud jokes — it’s subtle and silly, but it’s also clever while doing so which makes it so damn hilarious each time.  The growing confidence John Ritter’s character Bob Wilson develops (while Jim Belushi’s character Nick Pirandello, simultaneously, does just the opposite) from beginning to end is comedy gold.

Give Real Men a watch, but … “don’t make a big deal out of it.”
