I’ll be taking my game to … the Jersey Shore?

Could that be what is uttered from the lips of Carmelo Anthony when ESPN televises The Decision 2011? Okay, maybe the title is a little hokey. It’s the closest to South Beach you can get for a NY/NJ team. But make no mistake, Melo wants out of Denver … let the drama ensue!
Remember this little piece I wrote up back in March? [most likely in the middle of the night accompanied by a few cold beverages][whoa!!...kinda like this one!!]

It seems to be that old post is coming true. I might have swung and missed on the LeBron staying in Cleveland part, but then who actually predicted James to Miami back in March? And maaaaay-be I might be a little off on which Tri-State team Melo ends up with as well.
Anywho, Melo wants out of Denver asap. It’s looks doubtful that the Knicks will be able to swing a deal before, or during the 2010-2011 season, to get him. Oh, but they do have to worry about the Nets making a push for the former Cuse star. The Nets suck, and because of their suckiness– they have the pieces the Nuggets want … expiring contracts, young players, high draft picks. If NJ snags Melo via deal, they can woo him day-by-day to stay a Net. In fact, it would be easier for Melo to lure other free agents (2011) to come to the Prudential Center (ugh, terrible arena to play in) if Melo is already in place (in the swamp area called Newark, NJ).
[gotta luv avoid a town like .. newark, nj ... where A&E's Manhunters Fugitive Task Force is sometimes filmed][if u think u might be a tough guy, try rolling thru this town once]
How about this … say the Nets get Melo in a deal next week. Sure the Nets will still suck, but each game some baller rolls into the Garden State to game-up against the Nets, Melo will be ready with Jay-Z (or a few of Lala’s ‘friendly’ friends) … to entice a dude to ball as a Net. Who?– you might ask? Let’s roll down a few names .. shall we?
- Tayshaun Prince (dude clamps down and buries threes)
- Yao Ming (if healthy, of course)
- Jason Richardson (all-around stud)
- Grant Hill (though i doubt he’d wanna run with Melo)
- Tim Duncan (see Grant Hill, and can’t really see timmy in anything other than a spurs uni anyways)
- Tony Parker (maybe lala and eva become lady friends?)
- Andrei Kirilenko (dude is named AK-47 for cryin out loud!)
Com’on! You know that last one would be a lock! AK-47 with Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov. Those two meet over a bottle, scratch that, BOTTLES OF VODKA, to grind out some deal. Wouldn’t even need Melo in the zip code, actually, Melo might ruin the party with these two Ruu-skis.
How about a Nets TRIO of Melo, AK-47, and Tony Parker? That is doable, certainly. Ooooooooh. You know Knicks fans are freaking out with the idea of Prokhorov becoming the Prince of the Tri-State area. I can see Mikhail making an assualt on the NBA free agent market next summer, fo-sho! Prokhorov will be tossing bricks of cash at free agents like them fish dudes in Seattle’s Pike Place Market.
I must admit though. A part of me will be hurting a bit. The Association .. just isn’t .. the Association without the Knicks in contention. This joke of a drought they are in, sucks because MSG just has no energy and it’s no fun enjoying a victory against them stinkin NY Knicks these days. Knicks fans gotta revolt against ownership to right things. But that’s another story .. for another post.
Back to Melo.
If things do fall apart between a potential Nets courtship, or if Melo ends up somewhere other than NJ this season, he could end up in NYC next summer in a Knicks uni. Rumors say Chris Paul and Melo are gonna try a Wade/Bosh team up in the Tri-State area. We’ll see about that. I’m gonna go out on a limb and predict that good ol’ czar Stern will implement a rule to restrict all these star-player-collaborative-takeover-tactics … in the near future.

The Nets have some good pieces. If you add Melo to Wall and Lopez (I’m assuming they have to give up Harris to get Melo) then they are a playoff team for sure in the booty East.

Sad post, but truth none the less….
I can only imagine how brutal it will be in Denver if Melo isn’t signed and then traded before the season starts. The whole town has turned a complete 180 on him since the news got out that is agent told the Nugs to find trade partners ASAP. I’m willing to bet that if he actually plays a single game this seaon, he’ll be the only guy to get booed when the lineups are announced; even if we’re playing the Lakers!
If Melo’s real reason for wanting to leave is so that he can be closer to his wife while she pursues her entertainment career then I can respect that. That’s just the way life is for him. But if his reason for leaving is that he really thinks that playing for the Nets, Clippers, or Knicks is his best shot at winning then he will be sorely mistaken because he will be much worse off than he thinks he is now in Denver.
