Are the Vulcans Trying to Start a War?

Posted on 23. Mar, 2010 at 9:50 am by in Beer + Stuff, NBA Basketball, Portland Trail Blazers

Are The Vulcans prepared to engage in nuclear warfare against the City of Portland and their Trailblazers? Two weeks ago the Blazers brain trust, i.e. “The Vulcans” fired VP of Operations Tom Penn.  Usually the firing of a mid level executive doesn’t show up on the radar screen because no one really cares.  But this was Kevin Pritchard’s right hand man and many have suggested that Pritchard will get Pritch slapped at the end of the year.  Suggestions are one thing; articles by national sportswriters such as Adrian Wojnarowski are another.  Wojnarowski all but says it’s a done deal at the end of the year.

Now first off, you have to take what Wojnarowski says with a grain of salt. His source is “a NBA GM”.  It doesn’t take a genius to figure out who that is.  Could it be Denver Nuggets GM Mark Warkentien who coincidently used to work for the Blazers? Still not sold it’s him?  How about the fact that Warkentien was inline for the Blazers GM job that was instead given to the younger Pritchard?  And if that doesn’t sell you try this on for size, Warkentien still resides in Lake Oswego.  Gee wonder who would be the first applicant if that job opened up again.

But where there is smoke there is fire, and in this case there could be a nuclear bomb headed towards the Blazers.  Some insiders have speculated that coach Nate McMillan, who is on the last year of his contract and had a great relationship with Pritchard, would leave if Pritchard was let go.  And others have speculated that the Vulcans main agenda is to move the team to Seattle where Owner Paul Allen and the Vulcans reside.  The city of Portland would go to any lengths to prevent that from happening.  Hell the Blazers are about the only thing that keeps the city of Portland relevant on a national scale.  If that is truly the Vulcans main agenda they better be prepared for nuclear warfare.

*If you think this post was only written for the sole purpose of putting up a couple of nuclear bomb pictures I’m offended.  Offended that you guessed correctly.

There is no chance the Blazers get moved up to the 206.

The voters turned down a tax increase to renovate the Key, build a new arena in Renton ( I mean, Renton, really?). Hell, the voters keep turning down a hotel tax that would pump 200 million into Husky Stadium, clearly there is no intent to build an arena with tax dollars, and that’s usually how these things get built.

Unless your owner is worth mutli billions. I agree it is a stretch and is mainly just Portland people being paranoid. But it wouldn’t be the first time a multi billionaire has done something stupid because he wanted to. Plus Allen does own the Rose Garden and it’s not a stretch to think he and the Vulcans could come up with 300million to build a new arena in Seattle.

I think you’re high. It has been well known for a long time that Nate and Prichard do not get along. The fact is, Prichard is a clown. If something like this is in the press nationally, it’s not some small deal one time incident. Prichard is well known for complaining publicly and privately about the ownership in Portland. Prich believes he is underpaid and under appreciated. How’s that Greg Oden project working out Prich? At least you got some pictures of his Schlong.

“I think … no, I don’t think, I know Kevin has done a very good job,” McMillan said. “And I know that there are no problems or issues between me and him whatsoever.

I’ll take Nate’s word over Tom the E-thug’s word.

Yeah, i am sure he is going to say “Yeah, run that fuck out of town!” That is Prichards job, Nate is a company man and he likes his job, unlike Jeff I will take Greg Oden over Durant anyday!” Prichard.

Of course not, just like you can’t take what that ass hat Warkentien has been feeding Wojnarowski seriously.

And anyone in their right mind would have taken Oden over Durant in the Blazer’s position. They already have a chucker in Brandon Roy. To quote Biggie Smalls: “Two chuckers don’t mix like two dicks and no bitch, you find yourself in some serious shit.” Big men who can dominate the paint are pure gold, whereas there are a dozen Durantchula’s out there. And this is coming from one of the bigger Blazer haters out there.

I think you are mistaken about Durant. He is one of the leagues best players, he is better than Roy by far. Those guys on the same front line would have been unreal. Oden on the other hand is the second coming of Sam Bowie. Slow, injured and not worth a damn. Oden has never dominated the pain, even in the few games he has played. Durant on the other hand scores 20 points in his sleep night in and night out. I was a huge blazer fan growing up, when the team went to jail blazers i lost interest and to this day, the blazers have done nothing to peak my interest. I was excited when they got Oden, don’t get me wrong, but once he was injured before the first game, I knew it was a mistake.

Tom you said it right there, “once he was injured the before the first game, I knew it was a mistake.” Wow great call. You just like the rest of us didn’t know that was gonna happen and you were stoked when they got him. Obviously we were all pissed when he got hurt but it was definitely the right move at the time. Durant is the man but its true that there are a number of guys in the league that could put up that many points if they wanted to or had to.

Oden did dominate the paint when he was in there, just not on offense. He blocked as many shots and got as many rebounds as anyone in the league when he played. He was only playing limited minutes and was something like 3rd in the league in blocks…he was and potentailly still could be just what the Blaze need.

“Oden has never dominated the pain, even in the few games he has played.”

He was leading the league in blocked shots when he went down this year and was first in rebounds per 48 minutes. While it is a small sample size (20 games or so?) he obviously has a presence in the paint. Sam Bowie he is not.

I tend to agree with you that Durantchula is better than Roy, especially as a pure scorer. My point was the two couldn’t co-exist. Can’t have two Alpha’s on a NBA team. Look no further than the Lakers with Shaq and Kobe that caused me to become an NBA fan free agent. If that Blaze brought in another Alpha after Roy had just taken over the reigns it would have been a disaster. Shit Roy has a hard enough time fitting in with Andre Miller and Miller is far from an Alpha.
