2011: Carmelo Anthony takes his game to NYC
Posted on 28. Mar, 2010 at 2:00 am by Meerkat in Basketball, NBA Basketball
Before this post went live … the only things that Denverites were dreadfully scared of, were:
- Avalanches during ski season
- Losing the cable connection during a Broncos game
- Running out of ice cold Coors Light before the blissful buzz state was achieved
- Al Davis keeling over before the NFL Draft
- Climbing to the summit of a mountain and realizing you forgot the camera
- Going to a raging party just to find out that the guy-to-girl ratio is 8:1
Okay, the last one, any guy in any town is fearful of — no dude enjoys a sausagefest.
But now I must point out the fact that Melo’s contract runs out in 2011.
Oooooooooohhhh. Sorry Denver fan, I know this is scary.
Sure, Melo does have the option ($18.5M) to play in 2011-2012 for the Nuggets. But what if he chooses to test the waters? What if Carmelo is asked to play a character in a Spike Lee movie? What if LaLa and Beyonce start hangin out together?
What if all the Lebron James and Dwyane Wade free agency chatter we’ve had to put up with, for what seems to be years, turns out to be just smoke? It looks that LeBron and Dwyane will end up staying in Cleveland and Miami, at least to me it does — maybe I have been sniffin some glue? The real story this summer might be LeBron, Dwayne, and Kobe (should I say Melo as well?) all attempting to woo Chris Bosh to join them for some championship runs after LeBron and Dwyane have signed.
Obviously, this summer is going to be filled with lots of media drama and sleepless nights for fans in Cleveland and Miami, until the superstars have inked new super-sized deals. And ESPN, undoubtedly, will have have reporters hiding in hotel lobbies in every NBA city to find out who is wooing who. I hope Rick Bucher and Chad Ford have taken their vacations already, or at the least picked up a handful of top-20-things-to-do-in-this-city brochures.
But maybe the summer of 2011 holds even more drama and intrigue? If the Nuggets are not positioned, roster wise, for serious playoff runs after 2011 — will Melo skip town? How could he not, at least, take the NBA U.S. ass-kissing tour? If the Knicks don’t sway King James to a Manhattan throne, ain’t no doubt they will shift their sights on Anthony next summer.
The lure of NYC will be very strong for Anthony. He played a magical NCAA championship season at Syracuse (granted the cuse is 4 hrs from nyc) and the Big East conference tourney is always in MSG. So Melo is certainly aware of how special it is to play on the ultimate basketball stage. And let’s not forget, marketing wise, NYC is a goldmine.
Carmelo did grow up on the East coast, played his high school ball in the Baltimore area before switching to the high school hoops factory of Oak Hills Academy in Virginia. Let’s now toss in the X-factor … the wife! LaLa was born and raised in NYC, though her career took her all over the U.S. until she became Mrs. Anthony. Will Lady Melo have a desire to move back to her childhood roots?
The Portland Trailblazers certainly felt the sting of the wife-factor. Last summer it seemed a lock that Hedo Turkoglu was gonna ink with Rip City after he was done getting the Bridgetown tour with GM Kevin Pritchard. Whooooosh! Hedo left town for Toronto where his wife fell in love with the international vibe of Canada’s best city and jerked his rod into inking with the Raptors. Now I like Andre Miller, but Hedo was a great fit for team Blaze. Watching Hedo handle the rock and play feisty defense in Orlando’s playoff run last year, was impressive.
And now poor Pritchard is being raked over the coals. Ouch.
So Denver fans should worry a bit. Anything is possible in free agency talks. This is real. Pinch yourself Nugget fans, it can happen. Of course, the Knicks could simply remain the idiotic organization that they have been for the last seven years and destroy this potential windfall — even before next summer. As a Sixers fan, that would be nice for me. But what would be even more nice?
Philly sending the largest UPS truck in North America, driven by Dr. J, filled with stacks of green paper to Melo’s front door — with a contract and a pen. Maybe we toss in a life time supply of Pat’s cheese steaks?
Be afraid Denver … very afraid.

How much paint thinner did you sniff before this post?
1. Denverites is not a word; you just sound plain ignorant
2. Everyone here would love to see Davis die. Fuck that guy.
3. Running out of Coors Light is a nightmare that no sane Coloradan wants to expereince.
4. Melo is adored in our entire region. The guy is the center of attention for 4 months (until baseball season). Why would he want to leave Denver to become just another face on a SHITTY team? Why would anyone want to play for the Knicks in the next 10 years?

Yes, the Post is one shitty, liberal leaning newspaper…. Not a single person who was born in Denver says that. Only fucks from California or some other hippie state says rediculous shit like that.
You must have zero life to be googling junk like that man. Get a life brotha

Mick is on Full Tilt.
You have to be kidding yourself if you don’t think Melo will at least explore his options. Remember Mick, that team was pretty shitty before Billups showed up. Billups doesn’t have much more left in the tank, it’s not a stretch to think Melo will be in another uniform in two years.

Mick-
Why do you hate us so much.
PS, how was the Glenn Beck show tonight?

B, not even close to full-tilt man… I was pretty close to the edge this afternoon at work though… :-/
I’m not ignorant to the fact that Melo will explore his options. I just believe that his best option is to stay here in Denver. He’s found a great home that has proven that management is willing to find whoever they need to help fill gaps. Birdman, Billups, Afflalo, & Nene were all brought in to help get Melo over the hump…. KMart’s injury is killing us defensively right now, but we’re okay man.
What are you talking about Billups doesn’t have much in the tank? Check his numbers out man, he’s having a great year, bud. Soring is up, charity line performance is up, everything else is pretty steady-Eddie…
Bottom line, do you remember the 20 win Nugs before Melo? Now those guys were shitty…. The A.I. experiment wasn’t that bad man…

I don’t dislike liberals… I dislike the socialistic-progressive movement that is destroying our country. I’m just very, very fiscally conservative and I could care less about the social shit…. The leaders of the past 20 years since Regan were all worthless (yes, that includes Republicans too!).
If ya wanna bang around some politics then I’m down like James Brown mang.

If one is fiscally conservative, then they can’t say that they don’t care about the social aspects of politics. It is the social programs that pull the most money out of our national coffers. Fiscal and social are tied at the hip.

Let me clarify a bit. I don’t care about things like abortion, homosexuality, etc. I do not believe that we should fund anything that has to due with these issues, but people shouldn’t be hated/discriminated for them either. I could really careless because I do not chose to participate in those acts. We will all have to answer for our actions at one time, but that time is not on Earth.
Social funding that does concern me are things like wellfare, health care, education, military, and foreign “give-aways”.
Does that clear it up a bit for ya Kingers?

You cannot say that you “don’t care about things like abortion and homosexuality” and then say that you don’t believe that any public funding should be appropriated to them. By your concern about funding, you are saying that you do, in a way, care about those issues.

How many more hairs are you going to split King? I don’t if people participate in those activites. I have chosen not to. We each make our own decisions. I just don’t think we should hand out money to a “hot-buzz word cause” just because a group of illogical people want to hand out money like it’s Christmas.
It would be nice to see us not end up like Eastern Europe did after their fall from socialism…. :-/

Being that you are fiscally conservative did you like Clinton?
Mick
29. Mar, 2010
I would best describe my feelings on Clinton as being very mixed. I feel he dropped the ball big time with Bin Laden in the late 1990s. He knew that Bin Laden was beind plenty of attacks on Americans, yet he didn’t get after him when he had the chance. Clinton did attempt to balance the budget by rasing taxes instead of lowering spending, 1/2 point for effort but -1/2 point for the implementation.
He made two half-hearted attempts at health care and wellfare reform. He also ran big on those platforms and didn’t do shit. Guess not doing shit wasn’t as bad as stuffing it down our throats whether we like it or not.
I didn’t appreciate the lying to Congress, but then again who the fuck cares who he got his dick sucked by?? I sure don’t want to hear that crap. Unless you wanted to blow him yourself, why would you care??? How about focusing on the fact he had a pretty lame duck presidency?
At least he didn’t completly fuck us to the point of bankruptcy…. I open up the floor to reemings of our last two presidents now… LOL!

Since Regan? Are you saying he wasn’t worthless? Because he was as worthless as they come. Reganomics? Please…What’s the outlook for Kmart? Hope he’s ready come playoff time….

Not sure exactly when big K-Mart will be back in the lineup. The speculation here is that he’ll be back by this weekend… Of course who knows, it’s all bs until he’s back in the lineup. And boy do we ever need him back now. After three beat downs from playoff teams in one week, we need some presence in the paint baby!
