Coming off a sweep in the desert last week and a win last night against SC, the Ducks find themselves sitting in second place in the Pac-12 at 5-2. However, if they plan on playing in a post season tourny with the letters CIT, CBI or NIT then they will most likely have to win the conference outright. Most years the conference would have 4-5 teams in the big dance, but this year the Pac-12 might be the worst in the country and the chance of them getting even two teams in minimal.

The Ducks success has been somewhat of a pleasant surprise considering how the year started. Before the season even began 3 players had transferred, and then a month in their top recruit from last years decides to bounce. Not to worry though because while players transfer out of the program players also transfer in. D. Joseph, T. Woods, C. Emory, and O. Ashaolu are all transfers who are playing significant minutes for the Ducks. Add in T. Nared who came in as a transfer last year and you have 3 starters (Joesph and Ashaolu) who had nothing to do with the program 2 years and are now the face of it. Not sure if that’s good or bad, but they are winning. What Altman has been able to do with this group is pretty impressive. Usually when multiple players leave a program it is a reflection of the coach, not in Altman’s case though. The guys who left were scrubs that either didn’t want to work, play d, or thought they were way better than they actually were.

The Ducks play the pathetic Bruins Saturday where they should pick another W, and then next Sunday they will play host to the Bark Rats where another W should be in order as well.

The only thing worse than the Pac is Singler’s mop atop his dome. It’s been brutal all year, bust he took it a step further last night by channeling his inner Sasha Vujacic by wearing a hair band.

For all non-Beaver Oregonians, it was in fact a good day. In no special order…

The Duck squad dropped 90 in a route over some unsuspecting  Cougs in the conference opener up in Spokane(not Pullman). The final was 92-75. They basically played a perfect game on offense shooting 60%, with everyone contributing. Get used to the name Kingma, folks. The kid rains threes with ease. It’s early, but it looks like the Civil War(s) could actually mean something this year.

Notre Dame lost in the Catholics vs. Criminals bowl in typical Irish fashion. FSU outscored ND 15-0 in the 4th quarter to win 18-14. Someday they will be relevant again, someday. Brian Kelly is always one step closer to reaching Mike Stoops status, which is not good status. A couple more losses and a couple more temper tantrums and he’ll be there.

The Blazers beat the Nugs to go  3-0 to start the year. Nate is letting them run and it’s working. We’ll see if it still working in 5 months and how many times they can give up a hundy and still win. It was nice to see Rudy in mid-season form, chucking threes off the iron and not playing defense. Have fun with that garbage, Denver.

Sark and Co. couldn’t outscore Baylor as they lost 67-56 in one of the most pathetic college games ever played. UW gave up 480 yards and 8 td’s on the ground. And the reason they were in the game was because Baylor’s defense was almost as bad. Congrats on a stellar 7-6 year, UW!

ESPN insider, OldDirtyBraga, also reported on Thursday that Oregon received a 4-star commitment. TE Pharaoh Brown had originally committed to Michigan, but had a “change of hart”

And lastly, the Skyrimjob simulator is predicting a 46-37 Oregon victory over Whisky.

The only thing worse than the Husky defense might be these clowns-

Long story short Blazers will finish 7th/8th in the West, and get bounced in the first round by OKC or the Lake Show. The same standard procedure Rip City fans have become accustomed to under the Vulcan’s ownership, and there is no reason to believe the they will ever be in a position to compete for a title under his watch. The guy is clueless when it comes to building a championship quality NBA franchise. He should just focus throw his money at a ridiculous space-travel-plane prototype. Since the Vulcan took over ownership in 1988 the Blaze have made the playoffs 18 out of 23 seasons. Not bad. However, they have taken the 1st round exit 13 (6 since ’01) of those 18 appearances. Not good.

Considering the Blazers still don’t have a GM they have still made some decent moves in the context of perennial 7/8 seeded teams, nothing substantial though.

Patty – Chinese mission- It would be a shame if Patty wasn’t able to return until March from playing ball over in China, but it is currently looking that way. Who will join Armon to wave a towel and meet the team a half court during timeouts? He at least better be pulling some sweet Chinese tail, General Tso’s Hoe’s, while he’s over there.

Depth chart

While the Blazers have considerable depth in the back court, they have no depth in the front court. Every team’s big men go down at some point during season, even more so when they push 40 and are members of the Blazers. Chris Johnson will get substantial time, which should be good if he can play like he did towards the end of last season. Adding Craig Smith should offer some size and much needed defense for the second unit. Again, don’t expect anything different from the Blaze this season.  A bunch of  “6th men” and no front court depth doesn’t equal great success. They will finish 39-27 an exit in the first round.

More Fungineers

If you chose to watch the fecal matter that was showing on the NFL Network last, it will likely take much more than a video and some pics of chicks to remedy the feeling you were left with. I have said it before and I’ll say it again, the NFL is a JOKE! When a qb as bad as Tebow is completing less than 10 passes a game and wins something is wrong. The day when he gets concuss and can no no longer play will be a great day. Hopefully when the Ducks play ASU for the Pac-12 title he will be in attendance with Amanda Pflugrad and we can all be blessed by his presence.

Friday is already here and with little talk of a fairly important game tomorrow. The less the better in my opinion. As has been the Friday norm, here are some non-sport videos. The gorilla, the old dude, and the hood rats.

Sure, Game 6 was good entertaining baseball especially the managing Larussa did, but the playoffs have been lackluster at best. The NFL is again a joke, yet continues to be a great “product” when 2 of the main story lines each week have been Tebow related or what team can and will finish the worst in the league. There are of course many others, but both of those dominate each week. Then there’s the NBA, or there was the NBA. Damn.

Since the mainstream American sports are sub-par, turn to the French. Not soccer, but Remi, the guy who brought you Real Life Mario Kart amongst others.

In case you forgot to switch over during Tony Larussa’s 17th pitching change, or just forgot all together that UCLA and Zona were playing, then you missed a couple minutes of entertainment. The actual football game wasn’t, but what when on prior to the half was…

I wouldn’t be surprised if espn paid that kid to grab a few more eyes. No way more than 100 people watched more than 5 minutes of that game. And did that kid get away? He couldn’t have picked a better time to pull off that stunt. Anyone surprised that Zona can actually compete without some goofy looking tool yelling at them every 5 seconds? Granted, it was UCLA, but 42 points by half isn’t too bad. Does Slick Rick make it through the season?

FYI: Larussa is out-managing Washington as we speak. I’ve never seen a team be successful due to a manager than from players producing. What he does is simply amazing.
