I’m not quite sure when Randy Johnson became a Brewer fan, or even when he started sporting camo pants, but on Tuesday, he was the triple in umpire Bob Davidson’s ejection cycle. What’s even more impressive is that all the ejections were separate incidences, not some play or brawl where multiple people were tossed. Also, the three on field ejections were warranted and justified. I’m not sure what the Unit was barking, but unless it was something militia/death threat related –which it very well could have been, then the Unit got hosed big time. As a fan though, I would probably rather get run, then get a foul ball or bat at game. Also, if I was Davidson, I would be running people left and right if I was forced to umpire a Milwaukee vs. St Louis game.

Might as well give Kellen Moore the Heisman too. His numbers will only get Moore gaudy with the upcoming high school teams he will face. I despise everything from Boise State, fans, turf, Byron Hout, you name it. But they seem to get shit done when it counts, and for that I tip my cap. They have been as good as any other team in the country over the past 5 years, somehow. When they easily handle Lunch Pale U in a few weeks, and when Chipper and Co. drop 40 in a shutout against Rocky Top, it will become even more evident who the two representatives will be for the BCS National Championship.

The Boise State Examiner sports writer is not as good as the football team…Virgina?? Good effort. Clownzano might have a replacement in the wings.

Verducci loves Josh Hamilton, really really loves him some Hamilton.

Almost everyone who follows baseball knows Josh Hamilton is good, and is arguably the best player in baseball and possible MVP. But in only his second full season, there’s no way he should be compared to Mickey Mantle, Musial, or DiMaggio. If I was any of those old-time greats, I would consider it an insult being compared to a guy who tried to waste away his “God given” talent, and has only showed two years of quality production. It’s such a great story though!!! He was a crackhead, but now is compared to Mickey Mantle? Apologies on behalf of Verducci, Mr. Mantle. The Mick wasn’t the most pristine of players, but he was never a crackhead, and he had more than two successful years.

The legend of Josh Hamilton, Texas Ranger, is growing on a nightly basis. There is nobody like him in baseball, and possibly nobody this good, this big, this fast and this unique — a 6’4″, 235-pound sledgehammer of a hitter who can run balls down in center field and fly around the bases and hit for such a high average — since Mickey Mantle in his prime.

Hamilton leads the league in batting (.362), slugging (.634), hits (161) and total bases (282). The rest of the league is playing for second place in the MVP race. He has no contemporaries, especially when you consider that the Rangers, somewhat against their better judgment, have started him 26 times in center field.

How rare is that kind of skill set? The last three players to have batted .360 and slugged .600 while playing that much center field are none other than Mantle in 1957, Stan Musial in 1948 and Joe DiMaggio in 1939.

“And when he goes from first to third, he’s able to turn it on with his head up and without breaking stride and can see the ball or the coach. I was fortunate to see Larry Walker one year in Colorado. He runs the bases like that. He runs with his head up at full speed. He accelerates to full speed quickly, cuts the bases perfectly, and all the while his eyes are where they’re supposed to be.”

Verducci believes Hamilton is a runaway MVP and the best player in the game, yet Miguel Cabrera has better numbers than him in every category besides average, and has a chance at the triple crown. He also fails to mention Hamilton’s K:BB ratio of almost 3:1, one of the worst in the game. Verducci must think going first to third is something that is nearly impossible, and players are rarely able to accomplish such a feat, because he can’t get over the fact that Hamilton is able to.

He does “accelerate to full speed quickly, cuts the bases perfectly, and all the while his eyes are where they’re supposed to be.” Wow!!!! If this was the LLWS I might be impressed, but it’s the big leagues, Tom. How rare is that skill set, Tom? Griffey ring a bell? Hamilton will never be as good a defender, nor put up better numbers besides a one year average of .340+. Oh ya, Griffey started over 2,100 games in center, and Tom makes Hamilton seem like some God because he has to play center too. But then again, Griffey just relied on natural talent (most pathetic criticism of any plyer; no professional athlete got to where they were without “relying” on natural talent).

I wonder if Verducci thinks Stausburg is the second coming of Walter Johnson? Josh Hamilton is nothing more than a slightly better, modern day Brady Anderson. And to think he has done what he has without any PED would be naive and ignorant. You just don’t do what he has done to his body, and then get it to the level it is today just from “hard work”. Sorry, doesn’t happen. Also, there is no way he competes at a high level for even another 3-4 years, even with PED’s.

This year, and this year only, Josh Hamilton is pretty good, and might even be an MVP, but his name should never be mentioned in the same breath as Mickey Mantle.

It all began four years ago on a subtle summer evening in the Willamette Valley. Ten players willingly opened their minds to the possibility of night golf. Tension lingered in the air as the names were announced on the first tee. A culture was born. Recently shunned by traditional ideologies, The Committee refuses to bow to conservative minds who pathetically attempt to control us. We cannot be stopped! Alas, the Canyon is no longer our home; however, we will never forget our past. The Fifth Annual Wilgus Invitational will undoubtedly be a celebration for the ages. The friendly confines of the Canyon will be replaced by the McKenzie’s meandering murmur, juxtaposed against the boisterous wildlife of the Cascade Mountains. Our society has been redefined.

Entry deadline: Friday, August 20^th at the wilgusinvitational.com store located on the right-hand side of the home page. Our site is safe and secure through PayPal (This method worked flawlessly for last year’s event. Additionally, you do not need a PayPal account to use this service). PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO PRE-PAY ONLINE as soon as possible. The first 54 responses will be entered. Late entries will be placed on a waiting list. If the waiting list reaches 12 players, the field can expand to 66.
Format: Three-man team scramble, playing in six-man groups at McKenzie River Golf Course. Teams will be created according to the PARS system (Player Ability and Relationship Seeding). We are accepting team requests this year. Please include this if you wish in an RSVP email (wilgusinvitational@gmail.com). Iron play only due to the lost ball potential with metal woods. A sound conduct penalty will be enforced after first warning. Score cards will indicate the SSI level (Sound Sensitivity Index) of each hole. In the event of a tie, a sudden death playoff will ensue.
Check-In: The Invitational has evolved into two-day riverside event situated off Highway 126 at 90376 Thomson Lane. Green and yellow balloons will mark the turn located on the right-hand side of the highway. Players and caddies will have the option to check-in to the private drive-in camp site at 3 pm on Friday the 27^th. A twilight practice round can be played at your discretion. On Saturday we have a plethora of river activities and various competitions making it critical to arrive early and blow off any boring weddings or worthless celebrations. The Committee recommends that players, caddies, and spectators bring their ‘A’ game. For participants unable to arrive on Friday we encourage you check-in no later than 6 pm on Saturday the 28^th. A 10:17 pm shotgun start will commence play.
Entry fee of $100.00, payable online at the wilgusinvitational.com store includes: A weekend at our exclusive, pristine riverside location perfect for drive in camping (If you don’t have a tent, there is a giant covered structure ideal for a mat and sleeping bag set-up). Greens Fees at McKenzie River Golf Course. Two glowballs (This year we have the latest breakthrough in glowball technology, the Night Flyer Constant Light. Equipped with a powerful LED light, this is the brightest golf ball on the planet. Recently, NASA reported a space shuttle noticing a massive glow tournament on the southern tip of South America). Each player will receive two of these balls valued at ten dollars each (Additional CLs will be available for purchase at the event). The course will be equipped with the most glow gear of any tournament on the West Coast and will feature patented “Light Saber” pin setup. An Oregon Crescent Sticker. Pre/Post-Tournament party and award ceremony. A Fifth Anniversary Players Edition Shirt. A fantastic firework show. Multiple kegs available to players and caddies (The Committee strongly advises all attendants to BYOB as well, due to reported cases of dehydration in the 2009 Shadenfreude Scramble). A shuttle service to and from the course on Saturday night from the party site. A custom souvenir scorecard. An event photographer. Group/team photos will available for purchase online. Our best raffle ever. Awards for 1^st and 2^nd place, Most Outstanding Player, Long Drive, Long Putt. KP on each par three will receive a complimentary off season round at Bandon Dunes Resort valued at $75.00 each. In the event of a double hole-in-one, a coin toss will determine the winner.
Spectators are highly encouraged this year. Tickets are available online at the wilgusinvitational.com store for $20.00 or can be purchased at the event campsite for $25.00. A Limited Edition shirt and glow gear will be included.
Congratulations to the team of Justin Real, Kyle Overstake, and Tommy Franzen for their one shot victory last year. Real, a chiseled night golf veteran making his fourth appearance in the WI, guided his team throughout the Canyon to capture the MOP award. Overstake sealed the win with a 25 foot birdie putt on the last hole. Well done gentlemen.

Who says the Hex doesn’t work?

This text-book hexing from a young Philly fan was the catalyst that led to the meltdown and horrible Dodger loss. The Dodger organization is in a state of shambles equaling that of the Mariners. It might be worse though, because they actually have quite a bit of talent, the M’s don’t. Still, this doesn’t take away from solid hex put on Broxton and Blake of the Dodgers. Whether its a hex or a rally cap, 60% of the time, it works every time. It’s also nice to see a Philly fan not getting tazed, or projectile vomiting on someone…The kids mom in the second row is doing just fine too.

The workers get an F for not slamming the shit out of her when she was hanging through the window, but they get an A for not missing a step, and giving the next car their order asap…McDonalds = sanctuary for struggle.
